Is there a way of getting oxytocin without an RX? A friend of mine has a litter due and the vet will not give him any because of liability. Any suggestions? Thanx

No there isn't. Oxy can be very dangerous if given incorrectly. This should be given only at the direction of a vet. Most breeders give it as a clean out shot after all the pups have been born. The calculation for safe amounts is ONLY 0.01 per 50 pounds, way less than most vets give out. Cranberries( cranberry teas) have natural oxy in them, women take them to alieve cramps as it helps contract the uterus, works for dogs also. Bet it only took one ruptured uterus for the vet to stop giving out scripts for oxy. There is a service called whelp wise, that when you use their service, you can get oxy as well as a whole host of things to help with whelping from the vet that they use. here's a link to their site http://www.whelpwise.com/

I have used them for both litters and they have been great.  You have to get the oxy from the vet, but the vet might feel comfortable prescribing if you are going to be supervised.
