Yesterday,
I attendend a ceremony to honor all working dogs under the premise we shall never forget,. Present were reprthe following types of working dogs, search and rescue/recovery ,bomb, drug, assistance, seeing eye, therapy , police/patrol and 911 dogs alive and deceased. The ususal congegation of politicians were in attendence too. The event was held at Campbell Field, home of the Camden Riversharks in NJ.den Rivea base ball fieldprior to a ball game. The Camden (NJ) . Press releases were sent out 1 month and then 2 weeks in advance. Newspapers and local TV stations promised coverage. After all, 911 is around the corner, and dogs are just about everybodys favorites, right?
If 15 people showed up for the ceremony that was alot. To add insult to injury, the concession staff of the park had no idea why the dogs were there and ticket takers would not allow patrons into the park until after the ceremony was underway. The park made a substancial donation to another group but would not even offer the dogs water(fortunatley we brought our own). So there we were in 90 degree heat, everyone in uniform, pledging alligence to the flag and once again our wonderful working dogs were forgotten and ignored.
Just had to vent.....

k9sar,
So sorry. What a shame. And, how very disrespectful. Did the newspapers and TV stations cover it as promised? If not, you would think those politicians would voice their disapproval??? And, whomever was heading this up, can they not let the park official know what happened? Sounds like someone dropped the ball somewhere.
I'm sorry that happened.
And, not even give water? That's just beyond ridiculous.
Apparently, they've forgotten...

shameful, perhaps if some of us (hopefully alot of us) email or call into msnbc, cnn, even fox, plus local stations (abc, cbs, nbc, etc) someone will pick up on this and report about the neglect. i'm very sorry that this happened; as a nation, we sometimes show our very short memory spans. god bless and thank you for being there anyway....k

Yes, I too thank you for being there and everywhere else that you and your dogs are when needed. Some might forget but, there are many who never will.
Thank you again.

I find this so very sad, and the anger I feel at the situation makes me think of my tree.

Actually, the manager of the ball field screwed us, the media screwed us. The wonderful woman who put this together (by the way is on crutches and uses a service dog to asist her just to stand up) was in tears. Last year she held the event at the same location...they promised they would do better, well they did worse. And the media!!!Well let me ask you this, Do you know where search dogs come from? Not many people do or seem to care.
Perhaps I am being overly sensitive with tomorrow bewing the 6th anniversary but, Of the hundreds of people on this list I received 6 responses to my post "PLEA". I am not trying to beg, I am not asking for myself, I am just so disappointed in general.
I look around at society today, kids killing just for the heck of it, domestic violence, gangs!!!
And there I stood at the ball park, my hand held over my heart as the star spangeled banner played and some of the players were rude enough to talk , not take off their hats and god forgive place their hands to their hearts...I then say....but what about the dogs. I guess people have more to deal with than "people helping dogs to save lives"

Sadly if they were showing videos of Vick and dog fighting on the big screens, the place would have been packed.
I share your disappointment, k9sar. Just thinking out loud here - I wonder if the Westminster KC would stage this tribute next time? No better venue than the Garden and that show gets plenty of media attention. Anyway, sorry that the city of NYC and their good neighbors to the east have forgotten so quickly. I still think they should not have done anymore to that site than necessary. It should have remained as pristine as possible as a constant reminder to the city and the visitors of the worst day in American history. Now our kids and grandkids will never entirely understand the horrible destruction that resulted. Out of sight, out of mind I'm afraid.

I don't think you are being overly sensitive at all. It's unfair, it's wrong and it's a real shame. This kind of ceremony is an opportunity for the rest of us to say thanks and to heal a little bit more. The public was robbed too.

K9sar,
You have every right to vent. That is an event that should have been well publicised and attended. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sacrifice and service.
9-11, say a prayer for those that died. Say a prayer for those that survivied. Nver forget.

Sarah,
I'm sorry. I had actually missed your post of "A Plea". I went thru the posts and found it. I made my donation.
God Bless You and May Everyone take the time today to remember the lives lost that day and those still being lost.
