Would it be okay to bath a 2 month old pups? This is my first litter and They're getting quite smelly so I'm thinking of giving them a bath.

So long as you made CERTAIN they were kept warm and completely DRY before going back outside.

My ? is why in the heck are they smelly ???    The containment area for pups is to be kept EXTREMELY clean and free of poo or other "smelly" sorts that cause bacterial growth and could potentially spread disease !!

Get that pen clean,  Get some shavings, Clean several times a day and do this RIGHT !!!!

Those pups should NEVER be "smelly"  !!!    Your asking for trouble.

Their cages are kept clean but sometimes we can't avoid it especially during at night times. I have two maids cleaning the cages but we still can't keep an eye on them every minute of the day. Actually they're not that smelly but If there's no harm in letting them take a bath I would let them as to make them extra clean.

Make sure you use puppy shampoo or johnson baby shampoo.   My pups get the message when I put newspapers on one side,
and a clean blanket on the other, they go on the papers, infact, the shepherd pups are smarter than my lab litters I have!

Chinito,  If it's not absolutely necessary I avoid bathing pups,  Mom's should be able to keep them clean and in a clean environment they should keep themselves fairly clean too.   I avoid baths, for 2 reasons,  Puppies are very sensitive,  the slightest thing can lower immune system and at 8 weeks at best you've got 2 vaccines in them,  the other thing is they are very sensitive, skin I mean and if you use too harsh of shampoo you run the risk of irritation and or oil loss.     Anyway good job for keeping the area as clean as possible and if you can avoid it all the better in my opinion but that may be just me.

Baathe the heck out of themmmmm   a little water and Head and Shoulders wont hurt a healthy german shepherd....Put your pups on wire cages and they wont stink.....

I bathe every pup that Ive ever bred.....they dunk themselve in the water bucket ,,play in dirt and run thru the water sprinkler...why would a bath hurt......May be in the cold of winter.....this is summer....

I hate kennel smelling pups   I use odo ban on the trays under the wire, and my mamma dogs have all had baths after birthing.....

puppies are  nasty though, they poop and before it gets thru the wire, they pick it up and play with it or eat it.....and they have an unpleasant smell I dont want going home to anyone....I use  Lambert Kay  Cologne drops   called   Baby Powder" and it is heavenly.....I havae never had a pup get sick from a bath.....now a customer I tell to baby wipe until they have all four shots....but Im not the customer  ..I dont know what circumstances they give the bath or how their house is or what they might do wrong........

yellowrose,

Sounds like your puppies smell like little angels when they head home.

I see nothing wrong at all with bathing the puppies as long as they are not placed where there is a draft (summer).  Winter, they'd need to be dried really well and kept warm of course.

If I'm buying a puppy, I'd like to know the breeder to the time to keep the puppies clean.  Says something for the breeder in my opinion.

Yellow Rose, you nailed it.  The puppy area is cleaned more times a day then I can count.  But of course they poo and step in it right away.  And being outside getting some healthy air and excercise they find all sorts of stuff to play in, dirt, plants, beauty bark, you name it.  Dirty and dirt are two different things.....  Either way they need a bath after a while.
