I was wondering what everyone here gave their dogs for chew toys.   From puppy all the way to adults.

I noticed the bottom front teeth on my 1.5 yrs old GSD's teeth started to chip from raw hide bones.

Sometimes I wonder if I am raising dogs or alligators!

What I give my dogs to chew on: kongs, balls, dog-sized tires (Tire Biter) rawhide pieces.

What they chew on when I'm not looking: sticks, rocks, wire fence around rose garden, chair legs, carpets, dog bed, each other...

The only chew toys that my puppy hasn't been able to tear apart are the kongs. Someone suggested I try the tires because they use them for tigers at the zoo. Here's my puppy with her new tire:

ANnd here's the tire, about a week later!

Oh, and as for bones? I have a friend who owns a Cardigan which had to have 2 of her teeth extracted because she broke them while chewing on bones!

Not to mention a dog I saw when I worked in a vet hospital that racked up about $1,000 in vet bills due to a large bone fragment in its intestines!  Nature took its course eventually, but all the laxitives and x-rays, etc were VERY expensive!

I give my guy's marrow bones and pig ears to chew on. They are not to interested in the kongs or balls to chew on, only to chase after. I never give them raw hide things, because it doesn't break down in their system. Pig ears are all natural, raw hide isn't.

I also have 2 Bad Cuz toys that have stood up fairly well, though one is missing its feet and the other had the squeaker removed.

Kelly, it doesn't matter if they are natural or not, NO DOG'S digestive system can digest animal hide, which is what pig ears are! They will digest the fat, and whatever dried flesh is still on the ear, but the rest is going to pass through.

I have been told by many breeders that I know as well as vet's that the raw hide does not break down in their system. It can end up in one big ball and not break down, or if it does happen to break down, it can take a lot longer than a natural pig ear.

I forgot about the bad cuz toys, my dog's do chew on them and they hold up very well.

Mine chew on kongs (frozen and stuffed with peanut butter and some kibble).  They also like the black (wolf size) nylabones.  I throw them out if they start to show any wear or tear whatsoever though.  I also give them raw marrow bones on occasion.  I supervise them pretty closely when they eat the marrow bones.  My male loves to run off and hide his in our juniper slope and dig it up weeks later.  It certainly can't be good for them chewing on a bone that's sat in the sweltering heat?!?!  Yuck!  I confiscate it and throw it out.  I'm sure I just ruined all his fun

I did give them both Big Dog Chews (I *think* that was the name).  They didn't even make a dent in those bones so I thought I finally found something they couldn't destroy.  Unfortunately, I think those bones were the culprit in them chipping their front canines.  Into the trash those went.

My dogs love - tv remotes, sofa, pillows, mattresses, kitchen cabinets, drywall, hose, shrubbery and a few trees recently planted    I would prefer it if they would like all the kongs, busy bones, marrow bones, pig ears, etc that I provide them with, but alas they have their own preferences!

Our vet did say some of the very hard plastic bones have been causing some high dental bills.  Ours get mostly kongs, one will destroy every toy including regular kongs, she gets only the king kong.

What else?  hands, arms, pants, sweats, shirt sleeves, noses, ears (ours).  Rocks, grass, crates, crate fans,  stainless food dishes.......
