Ok - I couldn't help but laugh at the word "Malinoises"

From the pics I see the training is similar to ring sport training.

''A dog trained in Schutzhund is not a dog that can go to a home and be personal protection,'' he said, explaining that protection dogs must view their jobs as work, not play. ``You're getting a dog super trained, that can go anywhere, that you can go to Starbucks, lay him outside and go inside for 20 or 30 minutes and when you come out, he's still there.''
Well trained protection dog: $8,000
Well trained protection dog that will wait for you outside of Starbucks: $75,000
Well trained protection dog that will rob Starbucks while you wait outside: priceless

The difference between an $8,000 protection dog and a $75,000 protection dog is the fool willing to pay for it.

It's all marketing. If you can convince someone that they -need- a $75K dog, then you can convine them to buy one from you

Someone has to cater to the folks with more money than they know what to do with, I guess.
