Ultimate K9 Protection

by Ultimate K9 Protection on 08 September 2007 - 15:09

My brother and I are searching for a 100% DDR bitch import to add to our breeding program. We have found a few avaliable in Germany that we are interested in purchasing. However we have never made a purchase like this internationally before and are a little concerned and cautious about wiring money overseas to someone we do not know. - Can anyone give us some insight on how to proceed with a transaction like this so that we have a level of comfort that we are not going to get burned?

What is the "smart" & recommend method of completing a transaction like this?

Thank you

Chuck

Contact D.H., she is setting up a business to assist people with their purchases of dogs.  I would trust her.

You could also contact Judy from Alt-Ostland. She has done several purchases of DDR dog's from Germany. You can get her email from this site, or email me privately.

The best method, and the expense is possibly about the same would be to go yourself and take cash.  It costs about $1000- 1300 to ship a dog now from Germany depending on where you are.  It would not be much more, and perhaps less (depending on where you are coming from and where you are going to in Germany) to fly out, rent a car, and pick out your own dogs in person, and acquire the registration right then and there.  No new gray hairs that way.    My husband and I are doing the same and taking a mini-vaction while over there.  If you go, be sure to expedite your passport if you don't have a current one.  They say it takes 3-4 weeks to recieve an expedited USA passport, but most come back within two weeks.  USA passports are good for ten years for adults.

I would never trust a broker (no matter how good the reputation). If there are puppies, I would prefer to to see littermates (and mom) and make my own selection (if possible). If an older pup, I would want to see prelims of hips/elbows. If a young adult where training has been started, I would want to personally see bitework. You might also wish to have bloodwork done for various disorders (including hypothyroidism). If the bitch is proven, be sure that she has experienced no fertility problems or c-sections.
