Is there a difference between a full coat and a plush coat........
by altostland on 07 September 2007 - 03:09
It seems to depend on what people are trying to market.
You'll hear plush, long, full, etc. But until a judge or breed warden marks it down, I wouldn't be too sure of anything. In theory, I think a full coat SHOULD be a thicker stockcoat, rather than slick-coated, short-haired. But again, it all depends on what someone is trying to market. I believe the SV only allows stockcoat dogs to be breed-surveyed.

Wow! Thanks for a well thought out answer, this is my first post ever & I thought I bombed!
Anyway, you are right about marketing, it's all in how is perceived.

My friend Cathy has Camile Vom Alt-Ostland, her and I train together in obedience, what a well behaved girl she has,
she is one lucky shepherd owner, I train with my dog Theo Von Ryan.
Cathy said her dog was from TOP lines & she wasn't kidding, nice, nice dog.

Thank you kitkat3478, that is a very interesting site, I have been on that before, I was paying more attention to the colors.
I think sable shepherds have thicker coats than blk & reds, and solid blacks.
Maybe it's from the many colors that come into play.
I noticed when I'd have black pups in a litter, their coats would be closer, and their tails not so bushy.
