Letting your own dogs bite you (sleeves, legs, body suits) does that make sense and if so WHY??????

by Jeff Oehlsen on 06 September 2007 - 18:09

Depends on the dog, but as a general rule it is better to get someone with good experience to help you out.

There is no problem in decoying for you own dog as long as it is done in prey.

So you just disregard the fact that most people are terrible decoys???

My other question; with most peoples inexperience you think they can keep a dog just in prey???

GREEN DOG = experienced decoy

GREEN DECOY = experienced dog

Well I'm sure GARD was in a hurry. He is at work. Since he does know what the hell he is doing, it may have slipped his mind to even add that part. Sometimes things go without saying.

"Morrons, please do not work your own dogs and if you do, don't be shocked when thet can't title!"

Happy now Jeff?

4Pack:  We posted at the same time!  It's obvious GARD knows what he's doing, but he's not like most of the yahoos running around agitating their own dogs.

I think most people are OK working/playing with their young pups 8 weeks -4 or 5 months but that isn't real "decoying" though either. When it comes to decoying, I suggest finding the best you can get and using them. People who sometimes "decoy" their own dogs, are usually decoys and know their shit. When you know decoys, you will see allot of them meeting up to work eachothers dogs. Most are from a one helper club and have no one to work their own dogs. They work what they can on their own and then find a friend/another decoy, to help with other areas they don't want to tap into themselves.

Quote: Unfortunately, there are a lot of decoys who don't even understand what drives a dog is working in let alone why it's good or bad, but I guess that's a different discussion

Nothing scarier than a decoy that thinks he can work a dog in "all prey" and then when you watch them, they are frontal with the dog, and you see the defense that they are clueless as to what is going on. Like "prey" is a switch you can turn on, to keep defense out of the equation. LOL
