My 12 week old pup seems to not like hot dogs,I have been using her dog food and it seems to work good in the morning when she is hungry.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else can be used that would give good responses??

My dogs used to love beef liver, chopped up in small chunks.

For tracking bait & obedience rewards I take frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts, slice them really thin, then microwave the hell out of them until they are almost like jerky.  I then stick them in the freezer in a gallon size freezer baggie and take them out as I need them.  My dog loves them, and they aren't greasy so you can stick a handful in your pocket or in your mouth if you spit treats.  Once I tried to make them out of boneless skinless chicken thighs, but it was a fiasco because they were disgustingly greasy.   I also like Zukes Mini Naturals (salmon).  These work great when I'm traveling or out of chicken.

How about string cheese? But I like the nuked chicken, might just have to try that. I use hot dogs, my brats just love them. I can not imagine spitting raw liver

Oh that's true, I don't spit the Zukes!!!!  Actually I can't stand the taste of hot dogs either, they make me gag.

meat roll - it lasts longer than hotdogs, isn't as slimy to handle, and can be cut into nice squares that are great for obedience or tracking bait.  You can order them from dog-supply places online, or they have them in the dogfood section at Petsmart.

I use chicken breast for tracking and it works really well!  I think hot dogs are disgusting, and can't allow my dog to eat several on a track!  Ya I know she's a dog, but YUCK!

I boil the chicken breast with a bit of garlic powder, let it chill and cut into small cubes.  Makes for a nice snack for me too when I am half way down the track!  And as mentioned above they are not greasy and clean up pretty easy!

I can buy a bag for $15.00 or so at Costco, and that lasts me the whole month for tracking.  I cut up one to one and a half for each dog depending on the size.  I figure $15.00 a month for tracking food that I know is healthy is pretty cheap!

lol - the liver is cooked first; sorry, my error of omission.

I cook it until it's almost tough and then cut it in chunks or strips.  You can freeze several bags worth at a time also.  I've had more success with the liver than with the hotdogs believe it or not.  Maybe my dogs are just weird.

I like to use cooked chicken fajita meat or if I have to just cooked chicken breast ( more labor to slice). I can easily put the fajita meat in my mouth (unlike hotdogs--- I HATE THEM) which I use like a gerbil to store the food and reward with at the articles. I always put my dogs breakfast at the end of the track in a ziplock bag and make him indicate it like an article.

Peace
