Naya's Mom

by Naya's Mom on 03 September 2007 - 18:09

A friend of mine had brought up a question on some of the dog's hip scores in my newest girl's Pedigree a few days ago. She had heard of the Czech rating system of 0/0 are the best, and that 2/2 would be dysplastic. She saw the FCI Hip rating of A 1/2 on some of the dogs in my girl's Pedigree's and asked me why on earth I would purchase a puppy with dogs of such hips in their pedigree! Naturally, I was a little alarmed myself, but I contacted several members involved in the import process of bring my girl to me, that had extencive knowledge of this particular bloodline. What they basicly told me was that A 1/2 is actually the best score from the FCI you could recieve. Though, my girl is pure Czech and that 0/0 rating kept in the back of my mind, and yes, to someone who DOESN'T have extencive knowledge of the difference between Czech and FCI hip ratings, I was a little concerned.

Therefore, I am looking for someone to give me a quick run down on the differences between the FCI and Czech ratings, and if indeed this A 1/2 if a good rating.

The pedigree in question is of my girl SAMBA Z ELBU (Aka: Danica):  www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/501318.html

I too would like to know the extent of my girl's Pedigree, as far as Hip ratings go.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry-I tried to make it a link. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but this site has a comparison chart. Should answer all your questions. If anyone knows how to make this a link, I'm sure lots of people would like to see the chart if they are not familiar.

Nope...I didn't get either...when did you call/email? Sorry, I saw PrivateName Private Number on my caller id, but had no message on my answering machine, my power went out a few times, and everytime it does, I lose messages, the time, all sorts of things. From that Hurricane about a week or two ago, we had some CRAZY wind, rain, hail, it was CRAZY, and of course, blew our power out. Sorry again, try emailing or calling, and I'll probably be able to get back to you, okay?

Your dog has a excellent hip background. A 1/2 is the best hip rating given equating to OFA excellent or good. Fixi od Policie has a C rating which is mildly dysplastic but she seems to produce  good hips by checking her progeny.Be aware that  some dogs are known to throw bad hips even though they have excellent hips. I believe that bloodlines are as important as hip scores.Your dog goes to Titus z PS (he was thought to be the perfect german shepherd)and Arys known hip improvers! Here is a comparison chart showing the different hip  grades and how they compare. I personally think you have found a great dog with a fantastic pedigree and I would be proud to own her.

Thanks everyone! B. Anderson, how far back is Fixi? I could've looked over her, I think I missed her. Thanks so much, I am hoping she'll do well for OFA.
