Normally when i play tug with boss, his bite seems really strong to me....he will latch to toy so deep , i cant believe its doesn't gag him...usually he will grab it like this and do a quick back and forth jerk with his head, most of the easily taking it from me, but two or three time this week, mainly today, he will put his mouth on the toy but doesn't seem to want to bite down, he tries but will mainly just 'mouth' it, he is 5 months old, could this mean his teeth is hurting him, should i take it easy on tugging?

Yes it is most likely teething. Look in his mouth. You might see missing or loose teeth and red/swollen gums. Instead of making him think that chomping down hard hurts, I would back off with the tugging for awhile. Give him some ice cubes to play with and chew on. Or you can freeze carrots, washcloths etc, for him to chew. He should be better in just a couple weeks or so.

You definately don't want him to get the idea that biting hurts him....  I too would back off tugs, balls, ropes, tugging in any manner,  he can have them to play with and entertain himself with,  But I certainly would NOT pick it up and play with it with him right now,  give a week,  check his mouth,  a friends dog rescently had a stick jarred between her teeth on the roof of her mouth,  they all could see she was acting weird but no one checked until that evening,  they found the stick removed it and she is fine,  But just saying be sure to check he does not have something stuck in there somehwere.

Mine stopped wanting to play tug for a couple of months around that age. When he was teething, I just let him have his tug and run with it without much of a fight from me while we were training.

Once all his adult teeth came in, he happily realized the game could resume. I bet thats what will happen with your pup.

Once my pup's adult teeth came in, I was wondering if I was raising a GSD or an alligator!

She's destroyed just about every dog toy I've bought for her, except the kongs!

yes, the baby teeth will fall out.  often they are swallowed, so don't be surprised if you don't find any.
