I have working line dogs. What is involved in getting a conformation rating?

Would appreciate any and all info. Oh, yes I know it involves alot of money!!! LOL

for a conformation rating you just need a 4 generation certified pedigree from AKC, or pink or white papers from USA/SV (also 4 generation pedigree).  Your dog would need to be registered with USA or SV and AKC, and tattooed.  Possibly microchip would be accepted but you would need to bring your own chip reader.  Enter the conformation show in your dogs' sex and age class.  If he's titled then it would be working males or females class.  If he's not titled, then SG is the highest conformation rating possible - if he's titled then V is possible.

Remember for breed survey there are many more requirements.

Hi K9sar,

Generally speaking the cost of entering the show is about $50 more or less.  It's not like trying to get an AKC breed championship.  Sure show people campaign their dogs, but it's generally just a one time entry to get your rating.

Then as Molly said for the breed survey there are more requirements.

Breed Survey entries are about $100 or so.

Hope this helps.  :)

It would also be a great idea to not only condition your dogs for ring gating but to train them for it... it is not that difficult but it takes a little time... lots of comments about working dogs were this dog would have rated higher had he/she been better trained for the ring...

Maybe a show person in your area would be willing to help you or even someone on this list??? I will tell you what I did if you want to email me offline unless everyone wants to hear it....

I actually enjoy it and I'm in better shape now so its not a problem to run anymore..... you will have to do off lead heeling (running) in the working class rings

Hope this helps
