in response to iluvmygsd from trexshep
Sorry about the posting error. I was trying to copy your message and the respond to it and then hit the tab key by error.
Anyhow in response to your many queries.
1. The reason you would choose to title your dogs would be for the purpose of accepting the theory that this is the only reason a dog should be allowed to be bred. If follows the SV rules.
2. No one says that you have to charge extra for puppies out of dogs you took the time and expense to train. Hell, maybe your wealthy and can afford to do it. I'm not, I can't and I won't.
3. Temperament and good health are far more important to the well being of an owner than all the titles in the world. What good is a Champion that is sick all the time? Trainability is important. However, what is always good for you individually, may not be so for the people you sell or give dogs to.
4. Not all people that get dogs, work them? I sell to a lot of cops that just raise their dogs at home with their families. They are not used on the force. Crippled dogs cant work. Not all dogs have an "attitude" for work.

trexshep---thanks, your one of the few to answer questions about this without yelling them at me.....i keep getting and reading mixed feelings about this.......(to all others, if you read this please read full post carefully before you start bashing--all the way to the end...thanks)
here is my problem
.i do not want to stud my dog, but after i got him, i had hoped that eventually i would be able to trade --(i guess i would call it?) a one time stud..for one of his puppies.....so far he has been a great dog, very healthy, i plan to get hips checked when he is old enough....i love his color (get lots of good comments on his color/pigment) he is perfect around my kids- i have a son who is ADHD and he is very hard at understanding that he can't be to rough with the dogs, where my rat terriers will growl/snip when he gets to rough- boss (my GSD,) has never growled or stiffened once, he wags his tail through it all, while the only time his mouth touches my kids is to lick them : ) he also already has shown wonderful abilty to protect them, everyone who visit comments on how he never takes his eyes off them when we are in the yard and if they go futher than 30 feet from him/me he will get up and go investigate what they are doing......very amusing to sit in the yard and watch him do this....even when i am inside with him--i will keep looking outside at the kids in the yard, more than once, he has gone to the door whining and i will look outside, he will take off to them because they are out of HIS range....lol...i guess he listens for them inside....this is MY most important quality in a dog, (besides health)
as far as his trainablity- i have no experience in training-except for playing around with my mutts when i was a kid, but i was easily able to train him so far to sit-stay-come-down- he opens the front door on his own and after only a few times of showing him how-he also closes it when i say "door"...now if it was so easy for me to do that with him, i could'nt imagine what a pro could do if i could afford one....he also shows great intrest in 'wanting' to work, play, he has great drive, in my understanding of drive...loves to play ball..loves to play tug--but lately he seems to always win, (thats a whole different thing that im stuck on--i've read that you are not suppose to always let them win so they know you are pack leader, but how do you stop them from winning when they can snatch it out of your hand easily? i can't pull it from him, the only way i can get it is to say "drop it", is that still me winning in his eyes?)
and his pedigree, i don't know much about reading them but i have posted his pedigree on this board and was told that it was a good pedigreeBoss Von Hogg Phelps pedigree information
i guess my point is, i had always thought that the best way to get another dog that is perfect for you, is to breed from a dog that is, that you have had yourself and has passed your test....but from what i read i could never get one of his pups unless i spent lots of time and money getting him titled...i can't do that so i guess his line stops with me..and he will never be bred...so please anyone else who reads this don't start yelling at me...remember i wrote..had hoped and had thought..
thanks for your time, julie

Response: I tried to explain that in an earlier post. Dogs dont breed true. If they did then everyone on this list would have a Sieger and Siegerin. Again a puppy must have a mother. Your dogs sire line seems to have good hips, but there is no information from the mothers side. Unlike others on the list, that doesnt mean I must assume they werent done, just that someone may have been to lazy to put up the information. It could be both. I'm into showline dogs, not working lines. Your dogs sire line appears to be working. Mothers line shows little I can work with.
What you were describing with the dog and the kids is called a "herding instinct". Dog is attempting to keep the kids in sight and sort of is rounding them up for you. Hope I have helped. Ignore the yelling and finger waggers. You asked for help and understanding not all people can give it, not all people have top dogs. Some just want others to believe they do. Enjoy your dog, thats what they are for. Not everyone on this List is competitive. Send me your regular email addy to trexshep@aol.com and I will send you my website addy. Then you can go look at some of my dogs and their titles etc. No strings attached.
