Angela, A very handsome pup. Congratualtions. How old is he?

May I ask what were your expectations when you purchased him? Pet,sport dog, other?

He has what we call an open pedigree which some people like and others hate for one reason that open pedigrees tend to be less predictable unless there is also a lot of type ot type breeding going on. While I know the names of the heavy hitters in his pedigree and he does have some impressive ones and I know at least some of the traits they are known for, I do not know either of his parents and what traits they posses so ti is difficult for me to comment.

I for one find the willingness to experiment and open up the genome a good thing as long as it is done in a thought out manner not just random. In both our show lines and working lines we are breeding ourselves into a corner through intense linebreeding on a few dogs. For example on the working side it is getting near to impossible to find dogs that do not carry Fero, Mink, or Crok and usually heavily linebred. I personally think that our next bottleneck will be the Czech/Slovakian lines since they are being used so heavily as a way out of the FMC dilemma.

So tell us a bit about your pup. What your hopes for him are and what behaviors he exhibits. Also a bit about you. Is this your first GSD or are you a greybeard. That all goes into what this pup might be capable of.

I will try to answer your questions in order, but I will apologize in advanced if I don't. He is 4 months. I do plan to title him in ScHH since that is what he was bred for, that was my intent when I got him. Both parents are great dogs, I know them personally. Strong drive and good temperaments. I am not a fan of line breeding and I think that is why I wanted this pup. I know that there are benefits to it BUT it is not my personal preference. I do hope that one day he will have a ScHH3 maybe more if him and I are up to it. He is already showing strong drive. Call me silly, but I think for a puppy he even has a good bite. He grips fully and does not let go, even under pressure. He is extremely alert of his surroundings not afraid to check things out. He checks out almost the whole house when he comes in from outside, making sure that everything is in its place before he lays down. He even lies facing away from us, looking down the hallway( I think he only does that to try and chase the cats) He is not afraid of new people. Does not bite or snap at fingers, loves to kiss people's faces. He was very very easy to house train. Walks right next to me everywhere I go. I have already done a few small tracks with him and he did great. ( by small I mean 5-8 footsteps with treats) He barks a lot for what I am used to. My 2 Pits hardly ever bark at strange noises. When he gets into thing(cat food) that he knows he is not supposed to be in, he runs from me like its a big game. He can be a little stubborn sometimes. ( that I am use to because of my Pits) I take him to training with me and let him watch from the round pin. I think he will be a great dog for ScHH and my husband and I look forward to training him. As for me this is the first GSD I have personally owned. My family breed GSD and Dobbies when I was very young. They where there for protection but my sister and I loved to dress them up and silly kid stuff like that. I have 2 other dogs that are 1.5 yr male and 4 yr female. They all play very well together so long as there are no toys in the mix. The pup and my older male have control issues over "THE SOCK". Old socks make great toys for dogs that like to demolish them. I hope I answered all you questions. I don't have any personally experience with his linage, what are they like??
