Hi all,

i'm always browse this site until i purchased my gsd.

i finally purchased last weekend about 10weeks old female. yesterday she seems so quite doesn't play much and sit in one place and pee outside the backyard. then sits and wonders very rarely. i was really scared that she is very quite. then today i finally managed to take her for walk with lease.

first she ignored and slowly i pushed from back and call her with name after around 15mins. she manage to smell and walk very slowly and slowly she started to run. i think this is her first time in her life. plus the breeder used to keep all the puppies in the small cage that's maybe she is sitting in one place like lazy dog. she doesn't look that much hyper or too aggressive just keep quite and either chew the small bone or sit there.

surprisingly, even her first nite i put her near in my room and she kept quite and slept like crazy.

i'm feeding her iams puppy food for three times that what my breeder told me and lots of water as i can see she is drinking a lot of water.

is my feeding is fine or do i need to add some diet or multivitamin?

are these breeds like quite and watch or eye contact or are they supposed to be hyper like small dogs? i don't have childrens nor dogs or cats in my house. is it normal to act like that around 10weeks.

what else should i've to do to her regarding anything i missed as i'm completely newbie in this breed. should i start training giving reward from now. are there any good videos i can buy and train her?

thanks for all your great info. out there that helped to buy this breed. hope it will be my best companion.

thanks all.

Kool, was she like this when she was at the breeders? What about her siblings? It sounds like a vet visit would be a good choice seeing as she is so young. Even if there is nothing wrong at least you will be reassured about what is normal for this dog. Some are hyper, some are not. At this age I don't think any dog will be hyper for long because they get tired out quickly.

Is she putting out about as much water as she is taking in? Also, I'd be very careful about taking her outside the home much until she gets all of her series of shots.

If she were mine, I'd get her checked. They're so fragile at that age and I worry a lot about how quickly they can have a small problem become a big problem. Hopefully it will just be normal puppy stuff.

As far as food goes, Iams isn't a popular food around here. But, a lot depends on what you want to spend. Better foods can be more costly. But, sometimes you feed less of the costlier foods.

There is wiser advice than mine on this board, I'm sure you'll get plenty. Please let us know and congratulations on your new pup.

hi Dawgs,

   thanks for your input.

yes when i saw in breeder he put her in separate cage and ther she was sitting quitely. i thought she is alone. when he let her go she was running to her mom. i feel fine.

right now i bought her small bone and she is chewing like crazy and sometimes usually she tries to run little bit and then sits down. i'm going for 12weeks shot for next week so i'll consult with vet.

i just took her around my block around 20mins. but not in the park where there are lots of dogs. i just walk around the block.

should i wait until complete vaccine and take around after wards which might be after 12weeks vaccine.

today i tried to give her some biscuit very little and she ran to pick from me but sometime she still acts little lazy.

i think maybe her behaviour.

thanks

Keep in mind she's a baby and this is all new to her.  In a couple weeks you will probably be wishing she were being lazy again since she will probably start exploring things to get herself into. lol  Be very happy you put her next to you in the crate and she slept all night without whimpering.  It took my pup 2 weeks to adjust since he was not used to a crate and did not like it at all.  He cried and barked all night long it seemed.  It was hell. lol  The housebreaking to be honest I think comes fast for GSD's.  I got my pup at almost 5 months old and it took him about 2 weeks to get to the point he'd let me know when he had to go outside.  I'm sure your pup is fine, just getting acclimated to her new environment, wondering where all her siblings are and what this new place is all about.

Iams isn't the worst to feed but as allaboutthedawgs stated it's not everyone's favorite either.  It's "oK"; better than the cheaper stuff like Pedigree or the lower grade grocery store brands.  I feed my pup Solid Gold.  It's pricey but wow did it make a huge difference in his over all appearance and structure.  Not to mention there is limited waste to clean up.  Good luck with your puppy and enjoy her!

Kool, I'm glad she's going to the vet next week. Please just monitor her very closely until then. I personally will not let my puppies put their feet where other dogs do until after the whole series of puppy shots.  Even sidewalks because many people walk dogs on it. But, I have that luxury because I won't live in a city so I have a choice. I don't know what city people do in that case?

I'm not really sure that you should be expecting much more from her than she's doing.  I'm hoping you'll get more responses to this thread. There are so many expert breeders and owners here that I'm sure can give you more insight. I've only raised my dogs; many people here have been breeders for quite some time.

Best wishes for you both,

Dawgs

Oh, AGAR, I'm so glad you're here! I must have been posting at the same time as you. I was so afraid this poor man would only have my responses! Whew!

And I thought I was just a worrywort with my own dogs. Now I find I'm a worrywort with other people's dogs too!

But a 10 week pup of mine is climbing the cage and running your shoe laces all out and grabing your pants legs and screaming to get out of kennel.....something does not seem quite right,

If one of my pups did that, lazy behaviour,,,,it would be major sick....

Im sorry Kool , I dont want to fright en you.,,,,but that is not normal behaviour for a 10 week old pup   my 6  week old pups are kissing every one that come here, jumping in lap and kissey, tails wagging   grabbing tugs, grabbing soft balls and I have two scraatched and bleeding arms and legs right about now.........

do not take pup anywhere till all you shots are given    check for worms      if dog is sitting down and scooting butt, maybe wormy   ,,,vet check time .......hope breeder gave you list of shots and worming and vet check paper.....

A well bred pup doesnt need time for adjustment.......one hour is enough to discover someone else is his mom.....suragate...

how many times do they get vaccine inorder to complete the vaccine?

in that case mybe i'll wait then. seems to me that would be the best choice. is that what you recommend?

do you provide any supplementals with it?

this evening she looks bit active. going around coming next to me. running little bit. maybe after walk i think

thanks

kool,

I would take her in and have her tested for worms, and a general check-up for her.

Puppies should have vaccinations every 2-3 weeks from the time they are around 6 weeks until they are12-18 weeks (depends on your vet, etc.) Rabies vaccination comes a little later, and two weeks after the last vaccination is when she would be "protected" against what vaccinations she has had.

The more you do with her and the more time you spend with her, the easier it will be for you to tell when something is amiss.

good luck with your new baby, and feel free to email me privately if you have any other questions.  :)
