I might have a red sable out of VA-Nando vom Gollerweiher and V-Vila vom Haus Dexel (VA-Timo Berrekasten-daughter) for sale. VA-Nando speaks for himself and Vila was SG-47 at the German Sieger Show, and her daughter, V-Gina vom Silbersee (out of VA-Erasmus van Noort) waas SG-53 in Germany last year, and competing among top females in Germany again this year. She is our little home-bred brag.
If you are interested in him, please contact me after Labor Day, since I am leaving for Germany and can't send or take photos right now.
Here is his pedigree: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/511228.html

Why not be perfectly honest with the people before they write you? Tell them the absolute maximum $$$ you are willing to pay? This will limit the number of responses you get and from whom.
Showline dogs from highly ranked animals are without doubt always more expensive. Be realistic, go to a Sieger show, ask the people with VA dogs(not the V dogs, different class altogether), what they sell their cheapest pupS for. Go to a HOT Championship and ask the top 10 winners there what their puppies go for.
If your willing to spend more than $1500 for a dog, ignore those that complain. Why? Generally because they never had anything ranked high enough for them to have the belief that their dogs offspring deserve that much. If they are selling so called "working dogs", find out if ar least one dog is titled at both ends.
I cant unerstand why people are afraid to ask a breeder what they have accomplished with the dogs they own. if they have never accomplished anything, why are they bothering to breed?
Don't bother to ask a top breeder why he breeds what he does. They are not going to teach you their secrets of many years for the price of a puppy.
Success as a trainer, exhibitor, handler or breeder comes from a lot of trial and error. Lots of error. But the best breeders do compete with their dogs to see if the judges agree with what they like. If they dont, then they must begin over, not complain and quit.
A trained dog is just that. Its the result of a VAR(Value added reseller). The best trained dogs come from the trainers making the most effort, not because the dog had a father or mother that was well trained.
There is a poular expression going around these days,"ITS ABOUT THE DOGS.". NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH! ITS ABOUT THE OWNERS.
1. DOGS DONT TRAIN THEMSELVES.
2.DOGS DONT GO TO DOG SHOWS BY THEIR OWN VOLITION.
3. DOGS DONT CHOOSE WHO THEIR OWNERS WILL BE.
4. OWNERS PURCHASE AND THEN DETERMINE WHAT THE VALUE OF THEIR DOGS WILL BE BY THE EFFORT THEY PUT INTO ITS TRAINING!
5. AN OWNER CAN HELP DETERMINE THE ATTITUDE OF A DOG.
6. A BAD TRAINER CAN RUIN THE SAME ATTITUDE.
6. A WELL GROOMED DOG CAN HIDE A LOT OF FAULTS.
7. A BADLY CONDITIONED DOG, NOW MATTER HOW WELL BRED, WILL LOSE IN A LARGE EVENT
8. NO MATTER HOW WELL GROOMED A DOG, NOTHING CAN HIDE FAULTS OF MOVEMENT.
9. WALKING A "PULLING" DOG, IS INTENDED TO TIRE HIM BEFORE HE'S ASKED TO TROT.
10. A DOG SHOULD BE JUDGED BY ITS TROTTING SPEED, NOT AT A GALLOP.

Good luck in Germany this year Chris, I wont be going for the first time in 7 years. Health sucks and i have nothing to show!<G> With the Euro exchange going at $1.35, that means my trip with the airfare, car rental, room and food will be at least $2,000. Some people just have no idea what it costs to find good dogs, much less campaign them when you do.

OTHER THOUGHTS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING.....
For example, lets say I sell two pups, same litter, same price. One owner takes the dog home and he becomes a pet. Plays with the kids, goes for walks in woods with the owner etc. The other goes to a person who decides to train and show the dog . Second dog becomes a winner. For simplicity sake, a show dog. He gets V rated and Sch3. The owner advertizes the dogs stud fee as $750.
The other owner with the pet, realizes the other brother is really doing a lot of winning and wants to tap in on someone elses efforts. Next thing you know there's an ad for the lesser brother, advertizing he has the same blood lines(who needs the titles?) for $500? He wants to capitalize on the ignorance of the public thats lookig for an "easy way" to get a great litter of puppies. Is it possible? Sure it is, but so is winning a lottery "with a dollar and a dream".
Question. Which one will you buy a pup from? Both types reside on this List.
Oh yeah, avoid the hearsay and the gossip. The only way I eliminate anyone as a "seller" is by the quality of the dog they are selling. There is no such thing as a guarantee. No one can guarantee what a dog will be in two years, anymore than they can tell you if they will still be in business or even alive at that time. Ever try collecting from a company thats gone out of business? Ever try collecting from an out of state or out of country breeder? May I suggest consulting a lawyers advice in your state before you do so. It can save you a lot of grief later.
Ever wonder why most "buyers" dont want a contract? Most are clearly written as to what the breeder is willing to do or not do. Hard for a buyer to whine about something when they signed a contract indicating it wasnt "guaranteed". Besides, if a buyer felt they really had a chance to win, they would sue the seller in small claims court and win or lose that way rather than air "THEIR SIDE" of the story on this web site.
Think for a moment. Do winners ever talk much about the losers? Do losers always have something to say about the winners? There are quite a few people on this List that have accomplished a lot with their dogs, not over one or two years, but for decades. Ask them, they will be proud to tell you if they have. A winner never makes excuses for losing. It happens. But losers always seem to complain about not winning. There is always a reason why dogs lose. Usually its their owner and their lack of knowledge and training they put into their dogs.

What lines to do what with? Working? Show? Pet? Competition? Price range? Be more specific here to get the responses best suited to your needs.

I think paying a stud fee for the right male is a heck of a lot smarter and cheaper than spending the cash on a puppy in hopes that it will become a male worthy of using as stud. Let's see 500-800 bucks for a stud fee for a proven producing male, or 1000-3000 for a male puppy that may or may not turn out?? Seems like a no brainer to me. Is there any info on the female?
