How is it possible for dogs like this http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/127109.html to get critiqued as having good pigment? I guess she is really red but she lacks a saddle? Isn't she supposed to be saddle marked dog?
Thanks

Coat colour and pigment are two different things. A white GSD can have good pigment or poor pigment. Do some searches on this message board for other posts that explain it in more detail.
The saddle in some show lines fades, especially in females. This was the same dog when she was younger, I think she was just about a year and a half in the snap shot below. No idea who changed that pic in her ped.The new one almost looks more like her mom to me. But no, definitely a dog with very good pigment. Some you just have to see in person. She is stunning. That new photo does no justice to her at all.

Thanks D.H.
I will have to look more on the site. I am the one who updated her photo because that is the latest one I've seen of her and it was a more recent pic of her.

Well, how do you know the photo you saw somewhere is actually the dog? In this case you are lucky because the new pic happens to be from a reliable source. Which does not mean that it is like that with every photo you see somewhere. I know the one above is her because I took it. Maybe you should not change pix on pedigrees you really have no business changing. If her owner felt like changing it, that is one thing. You, not so much. It is well meant but thoughtless actions like these that make the database more unreliable than anything. Lucky here that the photo you found just happens to be authentic. I wish there was a change history for pix. If I found someone changing the pic of one of my dogs just because they found a different one somewhere they like better, I'd not be happy.

Well im so sorry. And thanks for the info on color vs. pigment

It's up to the owner of the dog to change pedigree pics. I would be pretty pissed if someone started messing around with my dogs' pages.

She does have nice pigment. Love the red, my show line was washed out and just a tad of reddish on the ears and legs. The above dog just has less black markings right? Nice looking bitch.
Yea I'd be a bit past irked, if someone changed my dogs pics too.

The dog referenced here http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/127109.html has good color but somewhat fading pigment (areas with black).

Just a question, what if you are putting in a dogs pedigree and one of the dog grandparents is not there. So you have to enter it, and you have a pic of this dog. Do you feel its OK to ad the picture then?

trailrider---i would say that was ok cause your creating one, not changing somone else, and its helpful for your own dogs pedigree, i would just let the owner know if possiable, so that they can make any changes they wanted, heck they would prob be gratful that you got ot started for them....and you can always remove it if they wanted
