I am curious to have you share your knowledge and experiences with me.

First off, mother is lacking in pigment so was breed to a male with great pigment. Mother is sable, father is black /tan. All other pups in litter look normal.

Pup at a few days old- is a little light on the eyebrows but otherwise appears to be black and tan. (0 sableing)

Pup at 3 weeks (same day, same dog)- body has no sableing (is that a word?) even when fur is run backwards, where you see black, it is black.  face and head are sable. What is up with that?

1.will this pup continue to sable more as it grows up? 2. is this a black/tan with horrible pigment? or 3. is this a freak of nature I will have to keep because no one else will want him?? LOL

A good friend has seen full grown dogs with blk/tan bodies with dark sable heads and said they are gorgeous. Does anyone have pictures of this that they could share here?

Probably light black-tan.

Dog on left is only sable in litter.

I don't see anything unusual, is it too early in the morning forme?? Are you surprised that you have blk/tanpuppies?? Is that your question?? sorry but I don't see any freaks of nature at all.....

I see 1 sable and 3 blk/tan pups.. I have bred 2 sables and gotten all colors, not freaks at all..just the way the color genes fell !!

I'm with Dkiah, I don't understand what you think is strange...it looks like a black and tan.  Perfectly normal to me.

I agree with DKiah, nothing unusual. That puppy is a black and tan with lighter markings. Looking at his head, I want to say that this will be a coated puppy. That might be the reason it seems odd to you. Coats often have different expressions when very young, almost "terrier-like".

Looks black an tan to me. I would guess maybe the face will be light being it is starting to show alot of color so soon.

The pup is a longcoated B/T. With correct lighting and/or a good photo, I can spot coats at birth.

Sorry Louise that may not be a long coat   Hate to tell you but after 20 years of seeing heavy coated pups , and laughing for 6 months later at people that tag pups at this age as longcoats...its not so.....I have a post Ill show you

May threw a fit because he thought it was when he picked it up   and because thats whta Pesii 's puts look like till 16 weeks, old,,,I knew it wasnt...

There us nothing wrong with the litter above...nice colors   You must be new at breeding        Colors change till they are 14months old  the saddles come into effect  the red spreads....a lot of my pups are light greyish or tanish over eyes  and on legs but guess what    all the changes along the way.......oh is this a black and silver? no way hosea    Id be ditching my stud or female if I came up with one of those   black and reds    or     sables....

The pup in question may have less coloring right now  but it will spread    and if you check back in your pedigree ,,,doyou havae any blacks or black and tans in it....

as long as you dont have  a   WHITE     will post next what he looks like now  slick and a hard worker....no hair....just normal coat   mother is sable and

sire is Pirol V Enclavehof son The day he went home

John. I don't think it will turn out a coat. I had one in my litter who had wavy hair on his head, back and ears, was a total fluff ball by the time they were walking. Mine were all pretty fuzzy but nobody turned out long. The one everyone teased me about turning out long turned out the nicest looking pup out of the litter. I think your puppies head will develop allot of tan in time, looks like he will have a black muzzle and backs of ears. I'm thinking the coat will be thick and plush, which I like looks wise, not so much for brushing.

thanks for all the input, was not worried about the length of the dogs hair,,(which is normal coat),, was really only wanting to know about its color because it is unusual.   the fur  on its head is that of a sable, dark on top with a lighter undercoat.  the rest of its body is that of a black and tan.

will keep new pictures added and see what comes of him.
