Can anyone offer recommendations as to correct sized males in Germany who are producing this trait consistently?
Thanks for any and all input!
Cheers

Thanks D.H.
I was kinda hopin' for a little more detail than that, though. Obviously both parents are to be taken into consideration .
Given that , do you have any suggestions on any males for a bitch who is at the upper size limits?
Thanks!

You would have to look at the whole pedigree of the pups to be, maybe dig a little, and then take an educated guess. Without knowing the dams pedigree there is nothing to predict at all though. And even when knowing the dam's side there really is no way to predict this with the certainty that you seem to be looking for. Size is only one consideration. Yes, now that it is becoming more of an issue people will pay more attention to it. Which can easily lead to wrong choices, or shall we call this a new up and coming 'trend' for now. Breeding is more than just for the next generation and size will not be fixed by the next litter. Keep size in mind, avoid extremes, and try to find a good middle ground for the whole dog you would like to produce without losing your original vision/breeding goal, and you should be headed in the right direction.
If you would like an educated guess send me info on the female you have in mind and where you are located.

dshlerner, I've got a small male that could service your large female. He's not titled yet, and has not yet been OFA'ed, so his stud fee is a whopping $0, which is all I think anyone should have to pay for an unproven, untitled, un-OFA'ed "stud".
Seriously, If you have a large female and you want to produce dogs that are in the middle of the standard, then it makes sense to chose a stud who is small or medium sized. Of course, that's just using common sense and is no guarantee whatsoever that you'll get the pups "downsized" as you like.
However, kudos for you to trying to produce dogs that fall in the standard. I get tired of seeing all the XL GSD's, with people bragging about their 95 lb dog as if they've got a real macho dog. LOL.
Best wishes to you in your research! There are many good males out there to choose from. Do your homework hopefully that will pay off.

Breeding standard sized dogs is not as simple as breeding one to another. Keeping the correct size is one of the most difficult challenges breeders of any breed face. I'd hate to think how many Shelties and Cockers for examples never see the show ring because they go oversized regardless of their parent's size. I've seen shelties almost at tall as collies from small parents. I've bred 28" males from 22" dams bred to 25" males. Not GSD's, another breed that asks for about the same size at maturity. Afer 4, 5 generations of breeding only standard x standard, there should be a lot ore consistency than is going to be seen in the next say 5 years. It also does not help to use dogs at the small end of the scale as they too can produce big dogs. D.H. has said it all.

As with anything, breeding one extreme to the opposite one, will never get any results. If you are a breeder of showlines, pay attention to the progeny groups of popular males and listen to the critiques. Some dogs are recommended to improve medium size, while the progeny of others might be on the "upper size limit". But as D.H. has said, it takes two to tango. A breeder should know what his female produces after a couple of litters with different males.

If breeding standard sized GSD's were easy, everyone would be going it .

I've heard Ghandi Arlett's line does some trick... but like Chris mentioned...It should be MATCHED then MIXED...

Thanks for the feedback. Are there any dogs/lines in particular (preferrably Ursus free as she is a Larus daughter) that are "recommended to improve size" that I should pay speci attention to?
I do like Idol v. Holtkamper Hof and Tiras v. Roten Feld as well as Pakros and Vegas.
Again, thank you to D.H.,Silbersee,SchBabe(cool handle by the way,Yvette!!),et al.....
