I have no idea ,I had a male puppy who was checked twice once at seven weeks with the entire litter and again at 12 weeks by himself as this was a puppy we choose to keep for our green dog program he then some time much later was discovered to have only one tesicle after we sold him with promise of top sport. I refunded the 1,500 paid for him by sending another dog at no charge and letting the client keep this male free. The vet told me extreme heat can cause it to float back in and it should return if both were down at the early age and she remebered the puppy and her checks but to my knowledge it never did so still am puzzled on what happened. If it does not come back or down on its own you should neuter the dog to prevent cancer and he should never be used for breeding if you choose not to neuter it is against ethics to have the vet force the testicle down as this trait will carry on to his offspring. Call you vet I am sure they will know or have a answer for you. If you purchased the puppy from a breeder he/she should have policy on a refund for you most kennels do.

Thanks Marlene. I think the heat was the cause, because it can get extremely hot down here.

Another theory is that fat deposits in the testicles feel like testicles, but aren't. This can fool both breeders and vets. I had one, same situation as mentioned above, the poor pup was check three times by two different people by the time he was eight weeks and they appeared to be there. Fortunately, the pup was purchased on a restricted registration and so the origional intent was to neuter the puppy anyway. I will help pay for the neutering operation to offset the high cost of neutering a cryptorchid.
