From my cardi friend's NG: A couple paid $5,000 for a Dogue des Bordeaux from a Petland pet shop. The pup, at 3 months, seemed a little sore, but when he was examined by their regular vet (the one under contract to Petland) she said he'd just pulled a muscle.
The dog got worse, not better, so they went to another vet for a second opinion. This vet took x-rays, and announced the pup had the worst case of hip dysplasia he'd ever seen, was in severe pain, and should be euthanized.
Poor puppy. Poor family. And may the puppy millers roast in hell.....

Trust me, I've tried to stop stupidity, but the morons are breeding faster than they can kill one another off. My gosh are you right! What kind of a person buys a dog from a pet store?

Unfortunately, petstores and bybs have a seemingly never ending source of first timers who don't do their homework before buying. I would think most would do a little research before plunking down $5,000 for a creature they plan to spend the next 10 years with, but I guess not. It's the dogs that pay in pain & misery.

Sad. I think people sometimes think if you spend that much money you are getting something great.

You whats interesting, I saw, the one time I stomached going into petland, a "bordeaux" and a "neopolitan mastiff" right next to each other. They both looked like an english mastiff mix, they looked identical but one was red and one was blue. Now, in case you don't know these breeds well, compare 2 pictures of these dogs. They look nothing alike. One of the many, many things that sickened me there.
