I don't understand how the poses of a dog standing in a way that the it looks hunch-back is suppose to look good, they look like they're about to hump something and to me thats not very pretty, what is the reason for a german shepherd having to stand that way? what purpose does it serve? i'm just curious because i like the look of a dog that stands tall and proud--not like someone just kicked it's hind-end and it's fixin to tuck-tail and run..

Julie, that's the way some imported GSD's are built; they can't stand any other way. If you look at movement photos you will also see that. It's a trend right now.

Not all....  Most of the working line photos don't have the extreme stack like that.  Doesn't matter if the dog is imported or not.

Julie,

Not everyone likes the "extreme stack" look.  I personally want my dog to look like a dog, not a frog.  LOL

anumules, most of the working line dogs don' tHAVE  that awful hump in their backs!!

True, I could have been more specfic and said it's usually the showlines that have the roached backs.

I've been told that my dog is a working line dog and he does'nt stand like that, maybe a slight lower of the hindquaters at times, but no where near that extreme, i would have thought  it was mostly show lines that were built/made to look like that

sunsilver, I know that, we have working lines.  That's why I mentioned not all have that even if imported.

Julie,

Since you started this topic. I would like to see some links to the extreme stacked dogs you mentioned. Show us all what you mean. The breed has a standard. Working or show. They both have trends in breeding types and they are just as many incorrect working dogs as there are show dogs.
