I bet people have, but it's "frowned" upon by a lot of people. It might be a good idea in the long run, might not be.

I had a litter out of a a bitch that was 3/4 showlines, sired by a very strong workingline male.  I kept a male from the breeding and worked him until two years old.  Turned out to be a nice male, very good drives, excellent nerves, etc. , I put a BH on him and sold him.  I did have a problem with his grip, he would bite full initially then slide out to a 3/4 grip.  However I believe this was a learned behavior as it had never been a problem until I worked him on a very well known helper at 9 months old; but I could never fix it, and I tried to with some of the best trainers in the world.  So he is now a police dog, and they love him.

the reality is that it can be done quite successfully !! - i have done it .. i have crossed a Larus v. Batu daughter with Karthago and Korblebach working lineages  and have produce GSDs that fit the standard and more than one that was doing bite suit work , attacks and guard, apprhension on escapes too, at 10 months ...additionally  at 12 months starting defending the handler from attack. No these dog will never be a high V .. perhaps a lower V.. but so what ? i have no intention of ever showing them  .. gee i don't think they want to be shown either .. they would rather have a bite ! now they are  very very level , clear , headed social dog. ! not nutzo ! the problem -- i have seen for over 20 year people doing things with the GSD to really suit thier own agenda.-- let's face it --show people breed just to get that high show placing / and "type" -- and the working folk want so much to stand on that podium that through the years ,[ except for military dogs ] , many are bred just to high in aggression and harndess that it  takes away from what the GSD ought to be. they are so crazed they can't think and are hard to induce in them control /self control ! same with police officers .. any dog used for crowd control or apprehension should be able to walk in the public without concearn ..instead they have these police dogs so wound up , in the vehicles .. most often because they are to high powered. with all that the GSD was .. with all the selective breeding to bring about the GSD [ and other breeds] it is ridiculous to say working/show lines could not produce great GSDs .. beleive me --if it were of importance --it would be done .. justy like in law -- follow the money -- that tells you about motive.. so if you breed .. what's your goal ?
