I have some questions re bldng a kennel for my three dogs.  We have cinderblock left from building our yard wall. We were considering using this for the main structure and then doing runs inside/out. Where I'm stumped is the flooring. We thought cement because it gets so hot here the heat radiates up from the ground, even in the shade. But, drainage would be a real problem as the ground has cheleche (don't know about the spelling) which is harder than cement. I would like comments on this scenario: What if I did maybe three quaters of the outside run cement and the last left as dirt. I thought it would be enough to disinfect by soaking it once a week. I was also thinking of putting shavings (the fine ones not curly ones) or sand in that part for soaking up urine and lime under that. Do you think the smell would still be too strong? I'm almost positive If I gave them a raised platform to lie on they wouldn't spend much time in the "pee part".  Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions?

Thanks

Dawgs
