Luger is my 1 yr old Shepherd who thinks he is a lab. I honestly don't think he has spent a day in his life dry. Well I got a bloody cotton ball out of his ear and took him to the vet. Who also noliced skin problems. Since I have a salt based pool we hopedt that was not the problem. His ears are clearing. But he has been scratching above and beyond the antibiotics and itch medicine she gave me. So I had to ban him from the pool yesterday after I noticed he was losing hair on his neck. He is walking around like a depressed child banned from playing in 100 degree weather. Don't worry he is an inside dog so he is not too warm. He hasn't scratched for two nights now, any ideas how long till his skin should clear.

Go buy a kiddie pool for fresh water.

I have a pool, and as with any pool there are chemicals in it that could dry the dogs' skin out or cause itchies - so I simply hose my dogs off as soon as they are finished swimming. Easy, takes a couple of minutes.

Kiddie pool won't work he thinks he is an alligator or something. Loves to swim and drink the water at the same time. I try to keep them both swimming for their hips. I don't know if I should lower or raise the salt level in the water. The salt makes the chlorine but still has a salty taste. We, the vet and I, figured that salt water is usually soothing to cuts and allergies guess not. He is slowly stopped scratching 2-days now. I guess trial and error once he is cleared up I will let him swim and then wash him down and see if that works.
