Sorry guys I know this isn't GS related but if anyone has any ideas a puppy needs yur help. My dad has a pit bull probably lab mix. At about 8 months old he started where he couldn't open his mouth. Two weeks ago we took him to the vet and shem mentioned mastoiditis, however, he has no symptoms of pain which is typical. He had a little bit of temporal wasting when we took him. My brother just emailed me a picture of poor Shadow and the wasting is unbelievable. Too be honest the vet was stumped she took a bunch of blood for iunfection and muscle enzymes once she found no infection he was put on prednisone but the wasting has obviously continued. Although the dog is rambunctious and eating like crazy now that his jaw is unlocked. In the meantime I know she is contacting her expert "friends" for ideas. Anyone ever hear of this. Thanks

Did they rule out tetnus? I don't remember what other symptoms they have with
it besides not being able to open the mouth. We had a dog come into a kennel I worked
at years ago with tetnus. It was one sick puppy!
Good Luck!!!

um I had a dog, did basically the same thing. Symptoms occured after a puncture from a slightly rusted nail. He had Canine Tetnus which is an unusual occurance from what my vet said. He had been a parvo survivor and she said he had a weakened immune system due to that. She did not have canine anti toxin since it has a very short shelf life and is not often needed. He had 3 weeks of support in the intesive care, he did rebound for a day and seemed to be getting better altho guarded and she called me and said I should be able to pick him up within a couple of days, overnight tho he had a relapse and went down very quickly. We lost him.
