I need your answers. My dog is in Germany for showing and the show trainers took him to a local show and he started growling at people. He is comfortable with the trainer and her family, but he started growling at the judge. This is VERY abnormal because I have never heard my dog growl before at anyone or anything. He is very friendly with strangers and licks them for ever. This is shocking to me because he is very friendly. He lets anyone touch his ears or teeth, and lets me do the same. Can someone tell me how this can be corrected. I took him to a local show and he got VP2 out of 5 dogs, and never growled or barked at anything.

Maybe you should ask those trainers in Germany that have the dog.

I assume were talking about your dog Rusty? Is he in Germany for SchH training/Show rating/kkl? In my own opinion, might be wrong, since I wasn't there observing your dogs behavior, that your dog was very uncomfortable in his surroundings. It may have been caused by lack socialization of large crowds.

Please tell us more about your dog.

*How do you know my dog?*

That's brilliant!   Let your breeder talk to the trainer.  That way, the breeder can sugar coat your dog's weak temperment.LOL

Brittany

It is hard to speculate when we are getting second hand information from the owner.  GSDkid was not even there to witness the incidents first hand.  As stupid as Peter sounds, he does have a point.  I understand there may be language barriers, but I would want to speak to the parties myself.

Too many questions to bring us up to speed.  Howlong has he been over there?  etc.etc.etc.

You need to bring yourself up to speed before we, "the experts", get involved.

GSDkid:  You definately need this issue addressed immediately: take note of what happened on the podium of the May 7 2006 at the North American amd FH Championship, awards event....two gsds and two handlers involved  ; Gus Elfar w  Antar vom Kiefern TAL      AND  Terry Macias w  Eik Vom Nordenstamm  //  after all the days of trial , and examinations by judges,   the two dog/handler teams wer in fairly close proximity on the podium during the ceremony and the dogs started to become aggressive in the close quarters of the awards podium.;

It was deteremined by two judges on the scene witnessing this, that the two handlers did not employ much "situation awareness" of what was around them, most notably each other...It was learned that these two dogs had' bad blood " already between them....It took everyone by surprise and Gus got bit by his own dog in the attempt to control his dog.

Because these two dogs already had scores of winners, and were under the eyes of three judges that 3 days, and were to be determined to be convincingly sound temperaments in the dog as shown by the scores posted at this event....a tough decision had to be reached...

one of the judges shook hands with Gus with his dog infront of him , after the incident happened and the dog showed no interest or inclination towards agressive behaviour towards the judge standing in front of him, and the dog was actually still afitated....

Gus Elfar received a reprimand and several other required by the incident matters to do ,by him and the director of Judges, the USA Pres and Usa Vice pres : have new protocol now in place for this kind of happening due to that incident....read the  vol 31 no. 4 July/aug 2006  USA SchH magazine letter from the above   page42.

You dont want this to happen to you or your dog no matter who the handler is   so address it now..
