I'd like to ask experienced US travellers for advice on attending the Sieger show in Germany, we are hoping to go next year ( do not speak German unfortunately) all tips would be welcome. Where to look for the best airline deals, how far in advance to book, etc, etc.

Many thanks!! Sonia

Sonia,

the 2008 Sieger Show is going to be held in Aachen in the Equestrian Stadium (Aachener Soers) It is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world and people have high expectations. The annual CHIO is held there and is internationally renowned among equestrian people.

Here is a link to the English part of the official city website: www.aachen.de/EN/index.html You can find a hotelroom and much more info on there. One advice: Book your hotelroom very early, otherwise everything will be booked out.

If you fly into Frankfurt, just go downstairs to the railroad station and board a train directly to Aachen.

As to flying to Germany, I always use Atlantic Fellowship, have been for 20 years or so, and I go to Germany at least once, sometimes twice a year. www.atlanticfellowship.com

Other useful information can be obtained from Germany's tourist info website with lots of important links, like train schedules, city sightseeing etc. www.germany-tourism.de

I'm debating traveling to Germany and Belgium to pick up dogs and have a mini vacation.  I wish there was a Pacific Fellowship like the Atlantic Fellowship.  Sadly, we will just miss the BSP in our travel plans.  Is there another big dog sport competition going on at the end of September, first of October?  Is there a Boxer competition going on at that time?  I love European Boxers.  I'll go to Dusseldorf, then to Ochtrup and then over to Belgium.  Any helpful suggestions?

Veronica,

The BSP would def been nice to catch, but never fear right around the corner October 4-7 in Bratislava, Slovakia will be the WUSV going on. We will be there. What kind of dogs are you picking up while your there???

I have much admired your dogs from afar, Runfast-- and to think I am also originally from Arkansas.  Where were you back then? LOL.  My husband and I are picking up two bred bitches and a male.  Karla is bred to Asko von der Lutter BSP and WUSV champ, Vinetta to Ike von der Mohnwiese, FCI champ.   I had not thought about going to Slovakia for the WUSV, I'll discuss it with Eric.  We were planning to kind of do this as a sort of combination mini vacation/business trip, since shipping the dogs costs almost as much as both of us flying over in person.

I sent you some email.

Venzosmom,

the Sieger Show is always held on the first weekend in September, unless they would have a scheduling conflict with the major league soccer clubs. That is why the SV schedules the venues so far in advance.

2008 - Aachen

2009 - Ulm

2010 - Leipzig.
