Not pit bulls, not GSD's. Poor kid, and the dog owner refuses to take full responsibility for having 7 running free dogs that have been problems before. I hope the child makes a full recovery, physically and mentally.

I too am giving prayers for the childs full and speedy recovery. The owner is certainly responsible for letting his dogs run loose. A lesson learned from this hopefully though is NEVER take a chance that a 1 1/2 yo could be out unsupervised. If it wasn't the dogs it could just as easily have been a speeding car, a wild animal, a child molester, or a thousand other things.

Well said PSP.
What a shame.
My prayers are with the child and the parents.

The child should have been appropriately supervised, and the owner of the dogs is completely wrong for allowing them to roam. it sounds as if they have no training or real interaction with their owner and have been just allowed to run in a pack. I hope the poor little boy makes a full recovery...God how horrific, if I'd been witness to something like that my first reaction would have been to grab the nearest object and start beating the dogs off.
Slightly off topic: I ran across a website constructed by the defense in the San Fransisco Presa Canario mauling. If anyone was curious here is the link: http://www.sfdogmauling.com/ . I found it interseting from a legal standpoint.

this is just awful...i don't even know the full story, i clicked on the link but hit page back before it came up, i just couldn't bring myself to read it..but this is just why i got my GSD, where we live the main worry with the kids playing outside is stray dogs and coyotes, i wanted a dog that was raised with my kids from a puppy so it would protect them from things like this outside....you can't keep your eyes on the kids every second no matter how hard you try(of course my kids are 6 & 7, they would have never been outside alone for a second when they were babies..was this child outside alone?) My dog is only 4 months he is already doin a great job, he follows them everywhere,at 3 1/2 months he chased away a stray male bulldog everytime it tried to come near the kids (we've had 3 bulldogs come up in the last 2 months- 1 male two females-the first female attacked and almost killed my husbands grandfathers 13 year old dog wich weighs only 8 lbs, can't believe she survived, lets just say that certain bulldog is gone now..and someone finally came and got the male--the other female was preggy and has had i think 10 puppies at my husbands aunt(our neighbor), now we all have to deal with them, but so far , since he has gotten old enough, no more stray dogs has came into MY yard, they move on to the neighbors yard
