I've always thought that my dog was a bit too long in the back (or is that a bit too short in the legs) and I'm game for a little abuse.  Please give me some honest opinions of his conformation, those of you who have nuggets o' wisdom to share.  If I took my "ugly working dog" to a conformation show, what rating do you think he'll get?

He's 23 months old now, and will have his Xrays done for OFA, and probably PennHIP too, after he turns 2 next month.  He still looks a bit puppy-ish to me and my breeder advised me that he won't really be his full self till about age 3.  Darn DDR/Czech bloodlines.  LOL

The picture is a natural stack when he took a break from running around the yard, so it's not a "real show pose" such that it is.

Have fun picking him apart!  Steepness of the croup?  Angle of the shoulder?  Length of the forehand?

He's good-looking and would catch anyone's eye including the Koermeisters.  They would for sure praise his pigment, color, head (strong beautiful head) and bone (strong bone).  The other things might bring him down to SG or G (who cares, he would definately pass Koering) - and I would guess he'd get KKl-2 (normal for working-line dogs).  If he had a little more angulation, a little shorter back, and a little higher wither/more fluid topline, I'd bet he'd KKl1.  But, I think he needs more angulation behind - he's a little bit straight there.  Short/steep upper arm (normal for working-line) but his shoulder is actually very well angulated.  His withers should be higher -  he is a little bit long in the back and has a dip in his topline behind the withers.  Short croup (also normal for working-lines).  Beautiful head, pigment, expression.  Nice looking dog for sure.

Good critique, Molly!  I appreciate your honest assessment.  I would also expect SG or G, kkl2.

My husband always teases me that his legs are short because all the calcium got used up to make that big blocky head of his.

This front shot shows it best...

He quickly caught my eye when I first saw earlier pics of him on this database.  I'll gladly take him if ever you feel disappointed

Hey don't go filling my head with a bunch of rosy talk like that.  I might get a bigger head than Chaco and start advertising a $1000 stud fee, thus setting myself up for mockery on the board.  Ha!

By the way, are you with Ehret kennels in Colorado?

Well, I have to say...I don't like him. Don't like him at all. I think you should sell him. Okay, you twisted my arm, I will take him off your hands!

HE IS GORGEOUS! I love his color! His head! his markings! but I still think you should sell him. When can I come get him?

DeesWolf, I may have to take you up on your offer if my husband's Mali pup continues her ornery ways.

Funny how it's "his dog" until it comes to the training, then I'm suddenly the one holding the leash and the Bil-jac.  Gawd she is a heathen.

Great looking dog and great pics....what kind of camera do you use...Ive come to the realization that my little kodak 330 digital with about 6 choices , is not good enough   or I dont know how to work the camera for good pics to post....my up close pics are distorted , like a huge nose area and I guess I am not a good photographer.
