Hi all,

Its been sometime since I have had a pup and don't remember any previous dogs being so whiney about teething.  I have a showline female that is teething, several have fallen out, but she is extremely whiney and unconsolable.  I have given her ice cubes and frozen carrots to play with and chew on, and it helps a little.

Question is: Can I give her teething tablets for the pain/comfort?? I am talking about the natural ones from the health food store for children.  All natural ingredients, nothing is on the list of being harmful. But don't want to make a mistake.  Or Maybe a baby aspirin? She even whines at night, and that is why I am asking this, it makes sleep nearly impossible because she is so uncomfortable.  Her general info is: 5months old, 54#. Both ears up for 2.5 months. Very Healthy. Vet said she will be fine and not to worry, but I feel she could use a bit of comfort to at least sleep better at night, so maybe I can too.....

Thanks in advance for the advice.

A very tired GSD momma

Kari,  it's possible she just has a lower pain tolerance....  Go back to the Vet, and ask if he will prescribe something for her,  If he will NOT then ask what you can use that is "Over the counter" Safe, and Functional,   Meaning it has to work !   Good Luck,  I feel for ya.

childrens aspirin or buffered aspirin, given when she is more uncomfortable - will help.

Another thing to try is a Kong (the right size for her) and put some of the filling in it and freeze it.  It's very cool and soothing on the gums and they get the extra treat of the filling (which will take time to work out -keeping her occupied and not think about her teeth!)
