I had such an excellent day yesterday! First, I met nice people at the Schutzhund Club, Drake had fun (I'm babysitting for the weekend, my granddaughter got a little bored) but all in all it was a GREAT experience! I pretty much learned that I have lots to learn. The club members are very helpful and patient and it was very enjoyable! The second part of my day consisted of occupying my 10 year old granddaughter for the rest of the day. Of course, we went shopping at the local mall. As we made our way to her favorite bling-bling store I saw the gates closed in the corner store that used to be a Pet Center (don't know if I should post the name, won't just in case). We walked over and the store is deserted with a small hand written note in the window stating: "Store closed, no other information available". This mall was built in 1980 and that store has been there since then. I used to go there and pretty much torture myself pitying all of those animals, bottom of the barrel, top dollar and people stupid enough to pay the price. I was kind of hoping that this was a sign that people are getting smarter and there's not as much profit in puppy milling. Of course that's only conjecture but no matter, it's still a step in the right direction, one puppy mill outlet gone!

I'm glad that you had a good time at the Schutzhund Club.
I hope that you are right on the pet shop closing being a good sign, but unfortunately I don't think so.
I just passed this place last night.

REZ: did a little scrolling on their site and found that although they are a store at least they try to insure the future care of the pup. they have the best health gaurentee and provide vet visits with the purchase. not exactly the best situation but better than most.

this is true, however, i have heard that they charge a bloody fortune for the puppies.

I just couldn't imagine why, other than lost sales, this chain would close its' doors. I'll have to ask around and find out if anyone has any scoop.
On a lighter note, yes, my first experience at the Schutzund club was a real pleasure. Nice people, nice dogs, a day outside, what more could one ask for? I had actually taken my other shepherd to the same place for obedience about 18 months ago but it was Wednesday evenings (a work night) and it's more than an hour drive, couldn't keep it up. This, on the other hand is on Saturday mornings, bonus! The drive is an easy one since it's so early and there are few people on the road. All around pleasure, I'll be back.

REZ stated that they charge a fourtune for their pups. i say great. it is more likely that a person that pays a good amount for the pup will want to take care of the pup and be able to afford heath care and a good life for the dog than someone that pays only $100.00.

not neccessarily. i work at a vet and we once saw a mini schnauzer pup that someone had paid somewhat in the vicinity of 1200 for and within a week, was in rescue.
