Hello Everyone,
I have a 2.5 months old male puppy. At that age, he still has no balls. Are they still coming down? Up to what age can I expect for them? May I ask for your expertise?

They will drop soon, give them time. Funny story here about my boy. Chaos is my first male. He is a year and almost 3 months now. I work with dogs every day, so I have a lot of advice at work about how to handle him etc. When he was about 3 months or so, I tried to feel for his package and couldn't find it. I asked some of the girls at work about it and they told me to lift his rear up off of the ground to relax him, or check him while he is sleeping. One day I lifted him up and felt and felt nothing. So I thought I'd try again another time. I can't remember how long after that, but I was laying on the couch and Chaos jumped up and plopped down on the lenghth of my body, and fell to sleep. I was rubbing his belly, and I thought hmmm, I wonder if I can reach down there to check him! Sooooo I slowly reached down there and started feeling around. All the sudden, he opened his eyes as he looked up at me, and his eyes were realllll big! He was like, you have got to be kiddingggg me, LOL. I told him, it's ok hun, I'll only be a minute!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You had to be there. It was hilarious. Any way, yes, I did find them and was excited, LOL. I went back to work and as I was in the entry way of one of our buildings, I said to one of the animal med techs, heyyyy guess what, I found themmm. She looked at me and said found what? I said I found Chaos's ballssss, lol. She looked all around to see if anyone else heard me and laughed. She said, I wouldn't say that too loud around here if I were you, lol. Any way. That's my story about Chaos and his package. Good luck with finding yours...............

Usually a puppies testicles drop between 8 to 10 weeks. However, there are exceptions. I would not start worring until after 6 months. Good Luck!

be concearned . you are dealing with the odds now . it is a concearn if you are planning on not neutering your dog. most testicles drop at about 8 to 10 yes .that is correct . a certain percentage fall if not by then at about 16 weeks .. and out of those numbers left a smaller , and that is a small percentage may drop their testicle by 6 months ..and if not by 6 months .. posible but statiscallly and odds, a minute ..a ver very minute percent might frop the testicle and after that .. you can just about forget that testicle dropping.

Yes, it is a concern. Chances are getting slimmer, unfortunately. The best thing to do when you buy a puppy is take it for it's post purchase exam and request the vet to look at teeth and testicles. If you can find one who is a reproductive specialist, that would be best. I hope this was not a breeding prospect? If you do have to neuter the dog eventually, look for an organization affiliated with the Humane Society. Some of these places will neuter the cryptorchid dog for a fraction of the cost of a private practice vet (a cryptorchid can cost several hundred to neuter)...and private practice vets usually are the ones who volunteer for performing veterinarian procedures for these organizations in the first place.

According to my vet and cryptoric male if they aren't there by 6 months it's time to neuter. A vet can check for you. My breeder let my boy go after her vet said he had both descended. Took him to my vet the day after I got him and it was a lymph node she felt. But she looked and tried all positions to find it and never dropped she finally found it in his stomach when neutering him. Undescended can cause cancer and a genetic defect.

Vets and breeders can be fooled, or so I've been told by my vet, who is a reproductive specialist, by fat deposits in the scrotum. I've also heard, elsewhere, that they can suck them back up for a time, I am not sure if that is correct or not. It is something I used to believe, but am not sure of now...perhaps the "suck up" was the fat deposit my vet told me about.

Also, don't rush into neutering, fearing cancer. Statistically, the cancer might occur when the dog is middle aged.

AKVeronica is right on all counts.
