CANIDAE or PRO PLAN - Page 1

Hi guys,I have an 8 week old GSD,I want to know your opinons on CANIDAE and PRO PLAN puppy formula.

I have fed both and like Canidae the beat of the two. It has been a long time since I fed Pro Plan though.

Ooops! That should be I like Canidae the best, not beat LOL!

Definately Canidae, compare the lables, but I can tell you, from seeing both, you will be happier with Canidae. We have sold Canidae and Proplan both. We ket proplan for 1 year, and we have been selling Canidae for 5 years now. You will be vry happy with Canidae.

Having fed both, I have to tell you I was very disappointed in the results of feeding Canidae to PUPPIES.  They simply did not get what they need from it - they were not sleek and shiny and solid like they had been on Pro-Plan.  I went back to Pro-Plan and have been very very happy with it.  As a note -  several pups that  I know of that were raised on Canidae did not pass OFA - while pups raised under identical conditions but fed Pro-Plan are looking good so far.

I think there's a reason the big puppy food manufacturers spent millions in research and development to produce top-quality PUPPY foods, totally separate from the adult dog food..

My ADULT dogs did great on Canidae!  Just won't feed it to babies again.

neither,  Solid Gold all the way,  Holistic, Palatable,  Works great for us,  for adults and puppies, we feed the Hundenflocken Puppy.  Love it.

Echo- I too feed Hundenflocken to my pup and I already saw a big huge difference in a few weeks from taking him off Pro Plan.  His coat looks so shiny and healthy and he started to put the weight on as he needed.  It's pricy but I gotta say it's worth it.  I'm just sorry it doesn't come in bigger bags.

I definitly would not feed Pro Plan to any age dog especially a puppy.  My last two GSD's  died of cancer at an early age an were only fed vet recommended Pro Plan.  I attribute both dogs dieing to Pro Plan.

I have heard that Canidae has changed their formula and a lot of users are now having problems with it where before they never didn't.

I feed my pup a BARF diet Urban Wolf and raw.  In a pinch for a kibble I use Orijen.

Whatever you use make sure you know who manufatures the actual food read the ingrediant list make sure they use real meat and make sure their are no grains in the formula.

Take the time and do your homework the resources are right here on this forum.  You are going to hear a lot of contrary opinions.  You have to feel comfortable in what your feeding your dog don't be afarid to feed him raw meat.  Dog's are cranivors and do best on a meat based diet.  Just look at their teeth!!

What ever you decide there is nothing more important than what you feed your pup.  Taske your time and make sure your comfortable with what ever decision you make.
