Each of our dogs has something about them that makes them special.  What is it about your dog you love the most?

For me I love Agar's whole personality.  His patience with the kids takes me back.  When I see this giant boy who could eat my baby in one gulp give her a big wet kiss and lick her toes he melts my heart.  It's priceless!

I love my Denny because I know she would attack anyone who laid a finger on me, yet she sleeps with me at night and kisses me constantly.  My Gunner is totally opposite.  But he's 100% clown.  He makes me laugh all day every day.

Ranger came into my life at a time when I knew my 14 year old female was going to die or have to be PTS very soon. I'd already lost my mother, my father and my husband, all within a 10 month period, so I knew her death was going to be really tough on me. I'd had her since before I got married, and we had a long, long history together.  She'd been a real brat, a dog that was always testing the limits, and I tend to get more attached to the ones that are like that, as they have more personality than the bland, softer dogs.

I took him home, an unkown quantity, who'd spent most of his life on the end of an 8 foot chain.

He was very gentle with my feeble, arthritic gal, and she actually started to take a bit more of an interest in life, and eat a bit better. (Though she did have to put up with him trying to seduce her!)

When she died in her sleep two weeks later, he sat beside me while I dug her grave. When I stopped to rest, he licked the tears and sweat off my face. (This was in spite of his a***hole of a former owner having told me: "If he gives you any trouble, show him a shovel!")

He's now my rock. I have a 70% hearing loss in one ear, and a 90% loss in the other. I've trained him to alert  me to sounds I can't hear when I take my hearing aids off for the night. He is totally reliable with kids (except for wanting to steal their balls!) and just soaks up attention from adults like a thirsty sponge, though he doesn't demand it. He's very gentle, but at just shy of 80 lbs., big enough and scary enough to scare off any intruders.

Even though Drake is just a puppy (6 1/2 months), his personality has emerged as a protector, friend, prankster. He will do anything asked of him if he unerstands what it is you're asking. He is very gentle with small children even though he hasn't really been around many. He came into my life at a very difficult time and though he had pretty big shoes to fill, so to speak, has earned his place in my heart.

Rikka's infectious love of life and, and exhuberence.  I tend to be a little on the stuffy and serious side myself, but just watching her run flat out with sheer joy can distract me from my most pressing issues.  She can play equally well rough and tumble with another GSD but never step on or hurt in any way my wife's Yorkies.  She is IMO amazing!

Kalibeck

by Kalibeck on 26 July 2007 - 14:07

My Kali is such a joy..she'll sit next to me when I'm sad, rest her head on my knee & give me a quick kiss on the arm, yet let someone step onto the property that doesn't belong there, & she just bristles...my grandkids can come over & jump on my bed, she'll lie down next to them & let them romp all over her, she'll look at me with these estatic eyes, she loves getting bounced on by the little ones. I took her to my work, she was so gentle with the dying patients & when one women began to weep, she walked over to her & leaned against her leg & looked up, like she was saying "you can pet me if you need to...", she's incredibly receptive about people's emotions......My other dog is Beckett, he's still a teen age guy, and acts like it! His goal in life right now is to a) seduce Kali (she'll have none of it!)  b) bite everything he can find that we'll let him! What a clown! But sometimes he walks up to me, looks me in the eye, sighs, leans his head on my arm, shoulder, whatever part he can reach, & then he takes a long, deep sniff, all the while staring at me! I wonder, is he saying 'I love you"? or what 'seasonings go with human'???LOL   jo

No matter what mood I'm in, Apache will approach with this look in her eyes like, "I've got your back Mom, no fear" and then place that beautiful head either on my lap or under my hand.  She is very persistant too and will not give up until I "talk" to her.  Gosh, I love this girl.  My silly Savage is just a goober but Apache knows when to be serious.  I love both of my girls in their own special ways but Apache truly does know how to get under my skin.

GSDfan, I love your little girl's giggles whilst playing with her friend.
