I was scanning the ads just now, and saw an ad for "Black and Blk and Silver litter planned.? How is it that you never see or hear much about a black and silver shepherd , on this board?

I believe silver is considered a dilution of the Shepherd's true colour, and breeders worry breeding for that colour will produce pale, washed-out looking dogs.

The Littlest Hobo dogs were certainly very striking in appearance. I am wondering if anyone knows just how Chuck selected for that colour and pattern? I used to think they must have been crossed with huskies, but no, they were pure AKC registered Shepherds!

Thank You so much Sunsilver! I enjoyed the article about Charles Eisenmann. I hope all who view this thread read your second link....I had forgotten about him. He was a pitcher for three professional baseball teams and many achievements in his life.,but his love , was his  shepherds. His daughter, now wants to do his whole room about Shepherds...I have co-workers , who think Im a nutcase ,because I have a ranch with 6 shepherds who all live inside and have doggie door for outside access...I have them all named ranch and rustic names, like Cheyenne, Laredo, Rio, Neches, and so on...

The black and silver breeder , at least she has ofa and some titles on all of them. I have people ask when they know I have six, are any of them Black and Silver, and I often wondered where and how the color originated and why there are not many around to read about.

I ask, also about "Roy Rogers" Dog.   Most people can't even remember his name.  They remember 'Trigger" but unless they are older, like me, they dont know his name  ...Let's see how many people, here, reading this will know , immediately what it is?

Bullet - he is stuffed along with Trigger and kept in the Roy Rogers Museum.

Thank you for the site link.  This is a breeder that has definitely fixed his type.  I find it is one of the best "AmLine" sites I have seen with dogs that continue to work regardless of venue. I love the fact he/she ofa's.  This is not my type of dog, but the site has made me hoperful that not all is lost.  I have run across people in herding with AmLine dogs that have been very conscientious in setting themselves apart by ensuring that all their dogs come from working in some kind of venue.

What do we know about "Bullet"  and his lineage..I could google , but I like the descussion here better..

It's spelled 'Bullit'. I have no idea what his lineage is. If you really want to know, e-mail Tina Barber, the founder of the Shiloh Shepherd breed. She bred her dogs to both Bullit and London, the very first "Littlest Hobo".

Found his pedigree! He's not in the database though. For those of you not familiar with the Shiloh, they were ALL AKC or German registered GSD's until Tina decided to create a separate breed, and began outcrossing to non-GSD's.
