Yes, interesting to see the number of people who STRONGLY DISAGREE with Cesar!

NO wonder there are so many out of control dogs!

Actually, in the 'what kind of puppy are you'? thread, some people say they don't cuddle their dogs. I do, but I certainly don't allow them up on the furniture, or on my bed,  nor do I put myself in a situation where they are overtop of me by lying on the floor with them, though I know there are quite a few people on this site that do.

I wonder just where the tipping point is, where too much 'humanizing' starts to cause problems?

I'd guess it has a lot to do with your dog's temperment and how dominant they are.

I disagree with Mr. Millan quite often, but hear him on this. Anthropomorphism is one of the greatest detriments to dog training today. You do such a disservice to your dog if you don't treat him like a dog, at least when it comes to training and expectations.

How many morons do you hear say a dog tore up the couch, "because he was mad we left him alone" or my favorite, "he pissed on the floor because he was mad at me?"  They don't want to point out their short comings as an owner. The poor dog new better, but had a tantrum or a fit

Do the best you can for your dog...treat him like a dog. You can still love him just as much!

spook:  "...Do the best you can for your dog...treat him like a dog. You can still love him just as much!"

Oh how very true.   It drives me batty to hear people talk about their dog as if it's a person.  On the flip side I do believe dogs can be jealous of attention their person gives another dog.  I do believe a dog "loves" their people or person, not as we define love but as being part of a happy, secure, ordered pack.  (okay, leaving myself open here.... LOL)

Our one male sleeps on the floor of the bedroom for part of the night.  This is so he is used to being there when my husband is out of town.   He is my big baby dog and my favorite, but he also knows to obey and behave, now not later.    He is still learning on the training field and I leave that to my husband.  Big baby dog is big and powerful and gets pumped up.  I know my limitations and I don't think he would listen to me "explain" to him he must be careful and good and kind to me out there!  He's smart but....

I love the one where people say " I have to feed my dogs before I eat"  Yes, back in the day farm animals were feed before the farmer ate NOT because he wanted to but due to daylight time.. But as time change we do not raise at 4 am in the morning and roll back in at 9 at night (well most don't )

But my ole time classic is when a older person tells me " my prebred bitch got bred by a mutt. She is no longer good cause the blood is tinted by the mutt. She will have mutts pups from here on out."   I hate doing it but I have to set them straight . I  use the example  of him and his wife and Mr. X and put it in to professional setting. After wards you see the light flick on and then they realize that they spayed or gave away a prefectly good dog.

EK, the ignorance out there never fails to amaze me!! WOW!! UNBELIEVABLE, in this day and age!!

Sounds like the sort of person who'd say he had his bitch 'spaded'!

Sunsilver not sure if you meant me, but I didn't say I don't cuddle my dogs. I said in the questionier I don't especially like to be cuddled ( but would if it made some one feel good or something like that) , might have something to do with hot flashes!  I wasn't always that way! But I answered for who I am now. In that respect what I noted was my dogs don't seem to like to be cuddled either, as puppies they were more into cuddling, but as adults and adolecents, nope they got right out of it.

Trailrider, sorry you feel I misquoted you. I was just pointing out some cuddle, some don't, some dogs like it, others don't. I don't mean I think  it's good or bad. I just happen to have 2 dogs that like cuddling right now. My previous female could take it or leave it, though if my husband and I were hugging, she wanted to be right there in the middle. I'm just wondering at what point it becomes too much, and starts to cause discipline and training problems with the dogs.

Sunsilver... no biggie, I wish my dogs liked cuddling more! I like to cuddle them, just don't like being cuddled myself!! LOL!
