Too funny.  Now that is dumb.

We had vacated one of our plants in nj back in the late 90's.  A guy broke in to steal the copper pipes and sliced thru an active power line and was killed.  We were sued by his relatives.  The legal battle went on for years.   We should have hired some shepherds to patrol the area!

RF, that is DISGUSTING!! I just can't believe that something like that would even go to trial! I think up here, the family would have been laughed out of the courts, though you are required to secure a vacant property against easy access, by boarding up windows, etc.

What was the outcome of the suit?

I have one worse. Guy breaks into this guys apt in VA. His Rotty took care of the burglar via a huge bite in the butt. Burglary sues and wins 30,000 in court because there was no warning that there was a dog in the house he was breaking into, Is that crazy or what???

It was settled out of court with them getting some money.  I cannot remember how much, but it was determined that settling was cheaper than dragging it out thru the courts.

Crazy about the Burglar and Rottie.  Didn't know we have to advertise to them about our dogs?  Are we required to let them know what breed is in the house so they can better prepare themselves before breaking in?

According to what the judge told him he should have had a sign that he had a vicious dog in the house. The dog is in no way viscious he was just doing his job. My sheps are whimps but they bark good. So if they make it past them they can say hello to my 9-mm

I like a sign I say one time  said  :" Dont worry about the Dog, Beware of the Owner..."

I recall a few years back, a burgular broke into a house, through the garage while the owners were on vacation. The burguler entered through the garage, however, couldn't get any further, and apparently the garage door closed on him, trapping him inside for three weeks, he had to live off of Purina Dog Chow, and ended up sueing the family when they returned from vacation...I forget what the hell the judge was smoking, because no way, shape or form, would someone sue ME for trying to pilfer MY house, and being stupid enough to get his ass trapped in MY garage!

This is just an example of how our judicial system is screwed up. Criminals given rights, when the real victims of the crime get punished.
