Are you nuts? Get a google link or something! Think HORAND von Grafath
Dutch Shepherds are brindles something GSD's are not. Anymore, any way.
I know 'cuz I think I had one. My Ugly dog, Gizmo, a rescue dog.

wow, its just a question.
here is why is had this question:
www.dutch-shepherds.net/hsh/compare.htm
And yes the brindles is one thing that the german breeds bred out of their stock, maybe because of looks? don't really know.
It kind of reminds me how today the show stock is all black and red.

Just checked out that link and yes, sounds like stuff I have read before about the lineage of the Dutch shepherd.
We have many of them in our club and in temperament, they are much more like a malinois than the german shepherd. More reactive and more athletic. (I'm not saying you cannot find exceptions in the breeds but in general, I would consider the malinois to be more reactive than the german shepherd. ) They may look more like what the shepherds used to look like, with a square build, smaller, and lighter boned, but of course that can be up for debate!
By the way, I look at my bicolor shepherd, and if I didn't know better, I would swear his tan markings are brindle. If he was a shelter dog, we would assume, in color, he had been mixed with a brindle dog.

This is an interesting post & Id like to pose a question.
The GSD was designed as a Shepherd of Sheep & All rounder. The dog Max created, Looks today, nothing like the original GSD from photos Ive seen, that original dog(s) looks more Dutch Shepherd.
Did the GSD evolve into more of a Military style dog as a result of the German Wars and Politics and less herding? Somehow, I dont see a 100 Lb DDR putting in a full day herding sheep and nearly as capable as a Mal or Dutchie in that regard..Perhaps a better protection dog but that too is debateable.. Anyone have an opinion? Has the GSD clearly evolved into more of something else than its original design, generally speaking?
Thanks

Reading past threads on genetics on this board and other research will tell you that the genes for brindles are dominant ones. And the Captain clearly had his druthers when it came to colors. Didn't hold it against the dog though.
