Does anyone have experience with this drug? My 6 y/o male died of acute renal failure on 8/14/09. He had on been taking this medication for severe HD. Did this happen to anyone else? He had a normal basic metabolic panel in June 09.

No experience with Rimadyl but know it is commonly used. My son;s pup is taking it as a pain reliever and to stay calm after being spayed. I just want to say I am sorry for the loss of your dog. It hurts bad.

Both of my dogs have been on it for short periods at a time with no ill effects, but all meds in one way or another effect the body. How long was he on the meds? What kind of food were you feeding him? There are so many things that can bring on renal failure. So sorry for your loss. Most if not all of us on this thread have lost a dog. Know that we feel your pain.

Anyone considering Rimadyl even for a short period please read the above ....
My dog died from Rimadyl poisoning-I had blood tests performed regularly and he did not die from it effecting his liver or kidneys-
He sufferered a terrible last few months on this medication as know one knew what was causing the issues-then after I had to have him Put to sleep-the vet did a necoprasy and it was found to be from the Rimadyl. At the time Pfizer did not put the warning of "death" as a side effect, but when you looked online this link above sure told the story-
Pfizer themselves confirmed the necropsy and had to pay.
People have argued with me for years just because their dog "did fine" on the medication-well so did mine until he died from it. It IS NOT WORTH THE CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want more info please pm me.
If I had only googled Rimadyl, I would have NEVER given it to him and he would be with me today...
