the other day my nieghbor 2 HOUSES AWAY came over and told me that he had to give water to my young male at the corner of my property. how the guy pitched it over my locked 6FT privacy fence in an attempt to hit the bowl my boy had obviously overturned is beyond me.  at first i thought to myself well it was nice of him to care, but after he kept talking it was more like "why did he walk through my neighbors poperty to get to mine and what is he doing getting on his tiptoes to look over my PRIVACY fence for anyway?" he continued to infom me that since it was a hot day and i was gone from 8am - 5pm (normal work hours for most) he was going to have to call the humane society on me. the next day when i returned home the was a notice on my door from the dog warden that stated they had a complaint that none of my shepherds had FOOD/WATER/SHADE/SHELTER and to please make sure this is provided and to call with their shot records and tag #'s. so i called them and asked didn't you see the dogs? they said no because i had a privacy fence and they wouldn't look over it (at least someone knows what a privacy fence is for. LOL) they said they'd enter that i called with the tag #'s into their computer and that would be the end of it. THEN the next day the humane society came out and i was home. so i unlocked the gates and as we walked around the out building the officer began to chuckle and say that "obviously someone was messing with me. and he was sorry to bother me but they have to check out every complaint." and even commented on how 'NICE AND HEALTHY" they looked. i thanked him and told him i understood and that he was welcome here anytime. he spent a whole 3minutes here. you see each of my shepherds have their own dog house in their own $600 10 x10 magnum kennel with either a 5 gallon bucket of water or the 5 gallon colligan style water dispensers. all located under the tree line at the back of my property which is surrounded by a 6ft locked privacy fence. there are good concerned citizens and then there are just old farts looking for some excitement now that they are retired. it was almost laughable to me but now i no longer feel that nieghborly feeling when i see him in his yard.

Obviously the guy has never had a dog and a water bucket....

You might also (for convenience sake) look at the lioxit-type faucets that you screw onto a hose bib.. the dogs only have to lick it and have fresh clean water on demend.  They're in all my kennels and they're a god-send.

I use those big horse sized bucket clamps and still my 6 month old (who likes to play in her big water bucket) can sometimes still manage to tip it.  She loves to stick both her front legs in the water and dig at it.  I have really large buckets hoping to deter her from being able to knock them over very easily but, sometimes, she's very determined.

Some neighbors mean well; others are just trying to start something.  This guy apparently has too much time on his hands.  At least the authorities see this in the event of any future calls.

hey ALTO (or anyone else who uses them) i was wondering about those types of watering systems. i was wondering how well they work in cold winter climates? they'd be great in the summer but would the lines freeze and bust in the winter? any info would be great.

thanks,

Rick

Ramgsd

You need to send that guy a message!

"OH, I'm sorry!  I didn't think your house had good ventilation, so I threw a boulder through your window.  I hope you appreciate my concern."

You should go tell the "helpful" neighbor your dogs are only allowed special bottled water and he owes you huge $$$$  for vet bills since you had to have the dog tested to insure none of the tap water had hurt him.   We have people like that in the city that incorporated around us.  weasals.

I like The Don's suggestion too......

Hahahahahaha  now that is too funny Don Corleone. That's a good one!!

Ramgsd, I think that we all have or have had neighbors similiar to yours. I had a retired couple living next to me that felt that I should not have dogs, since they did not like them. The old man would stand on a ladder and tease my female pup (then 10 months old) over the fence. She would bark up a storm, until I caught him thru the window. The next time it happened, I went outside and said, " what's wrong girl, what are you barking at?? Are you barking at that bad man, GOOD GIRL, What a good girl!! I said it loud enough for him to hear me, and then I told him he should be ashamed of himself for teasing the dogs. They are protecting their property and doing exactly what I want them to. Well he stopped after that and never bothered again, however his wife then called animal control and told them I had alot of dogs all the time. Well needless to say, they came out,, saw that I only had 4 dogs at that time and laughed. He laughed even harder when I told him how much I spent  on their dog food that I make for them. He also told us that as long as the dogs are cared for, we can have as many as we want. So after informing her that we were planning on getting some more dogs, she left us alone and never said another word. hehehehehehe.

Good Luck  with your neighbor,

Debbie

This might sound stupid and I really don't care, but the kiddie pools actually work wonders. My dogs love it. If there thirsty or just want to lay in it who cares as long as there cool.

i have 2 dogs who sleep in their pools with their heads hanging over the sides lol
