Hi everyone,
I haven't had a pup with Pano for years, but I think I have one now. He's 6 months old and it comes and goes, which makes me believe even more that it's Pano and not an elbow.
Has anyone had any luck with anything other than rest for a remedy? He is on an adult food, (Royal Canin 24 and appetite has decreased.
I have stopped all training and we're starting to fall way behind, but I can't work a dog thats in pain.
Thanks,
Pam

Rest is the best thing.. what do you mean u have started to fall way behind?? He's only 6 months old!! You have plenty of time and he still needs to play and release some energy.. you just don't want to overdo..... I agree I won't work a dog in pain, but I hardly call what I do with a young pup work! It's all play!!
Although my experience tells me, that most dogs are more than willing to play even with pano .. some however will get depressed and stop eating.... just ride it out.. it will go away.. keep him very lean, I would say almost rail thin and if you have to feed commercial food, feed the adult version like you are doing ... have never had a dog with pano now that I'm feeding raw.. they grow much slower....
Sometimes Rimadyl or one of the other NSAIDS will help but best to do an xray and determine that's what you have..
Good luck, relax, have some fun..play some games ....... if it is pano, it will go away..

We've had one with pano. We kept her very thin so there was no extra weight, also gave her a childrens aspirin to take the edge off. We didn't work her but would let her sit and watch with me.

There have been several threads on pano on this database.. you may want to do a search and look thru them.. saves a lot of repeating....

my gsd had pano off and on (he's very large and grew rapidly). he was on rc large breed puppy (still is tho its mixed w/ger shep now). i was told by breeder not to use adult ger shep food til at least a year. we gave him rimadyl and let him take it easy (no walks or too hard of play) for a few days and would watch him. however, a few months ago, he started limping on a diff leg and we decided to have it xrayed. turns out in that elbow he had a bone fragment which required surgery and showed he had the beginnings of hd. so, dont necessarily assume its just pano, it could be something else. or not. unfortunetly, we hit the "jackpot". btw, our pup is just 14 months. i now err on the side of caution and always have the vet check it. good luck
