how long do you wait between each pup before you get in touch with the vet?  how long is there labor normal starting from stage 1?

by gsdlvr2 on 08 July 2007 - 21:07

I don't like to wait more than 2 hrs but I think 4 hrs is ok. Do you have a bitch whelping now? Normal time is up to 18 - 24 hrs but I get nervous if it goes that slow. Or do you mean how long from when the temperature drops til whelping is done?

Ours whelped Saturday.  She was close to 2-hours between births at time.  Call your vet and ask what they recommend, did you have her x-rayed or an ultra sound done so you know how many to watch for?

three hours  is time to get ready to watch and five is too long.....every female is different  in the starting stage  If water breaks  and an immed birth is not done,  vet time...or if one gets stuck coming out,,,have vet educate you ahead of time how to pull and help.  My black bitch just spit out 8 babies while the fireworks were flying on the fourth and she never even gave me one clue she was ready......she had them all cleaned , box clean, and pups stomachs all full by the time I walked back in the nursery after midnight of the fourth.....she is Zu th second , my foundation bitch was the same way,,,,working on a sleeve one minute , having 6-8 pups three hours later....and never too long inbetween   ZU , Zesch and Bali all would have one every  30 mins to an hour   once or twice after their third litter they each waited two hours on the last pup...I at that time said enough for you girls  ,,,,,,Cola was another story....she was in labour for 8 hours  panting , a walking floor and contactions start contactions stopped,,,,at 1:30 in morning, it was a trip to the vet and one dead pup was blocking the tract.....he c sectioned her and threw me a pup , litterally threw it accross room to me and then his nurse handed Jeri , the other one as she was dumbfounded and to me this was ole hat.

I did learn that night how to get snot out of their passages, and the sling between the legs  was scary but i learned how to do it.....hope I never need to use it.....

she had one puppy about 2 1/2 hrs ago. she just started having harder contractions.  she isnt a firster.  its mine first by myself.  been around it  all my life but its different when you are the only one and its your dog.

if she doesn't produce one soon ,as she is contracting, it would be vet time,at least for an x-ray. Get your heating pad warming just in case
