A friend's GSD will celebrate his 15th birthday tomorrow. He's still doing well albeit a bit weak in the rear. She says he still lets her know when someone is at the door .

I just buried my 15 year old Cocker spaniel and she outlived ZU my main bitch and actually Zu and Zesch got ahold of her when she was four and almost killed her....she had never had pups and after her 400.00 vet bill to put her back together, she raised 3 litters of beautiful parti color cockers .....she was as healthy as one could ever had, only had in 15 years , only 3 times , an upset tummy.....she ate chocolate,,,stolen out of my purse, ate the gsd's food, snuck it, and could find a lizard, mouse, fllie on the wall ,and a ball , no matter where it was , even the freezer.......
Of course she and the other cockers were never allowed anywhere near ZU or any other of them....COckers have an attitude and a gsd will finish that attitude in one bite.....

Happy Birthday, old boy!!
My female will be 14 in October. And she is healthy and always hungry. Still goes after all the others and covers their pee spots with her own.

This dog eats a commercial dog food, forget now which one, a premium brand. I'll have to ask if she knows his breeding, he was given to her years ago and was supposed to be there for a few months til they found him a new home . All her large breed dogs live to be very old, most over 14, some as old as 16. We always kid her saying she must have the canine fountain of youth on her property.
14 is a good long life, Chris. I am praying that my Blitz lives that long; my first GSD died at just 7 1/2. My oldest large breed dog was 14 1/2, a Malamute, but I owned a small mix that lived to be almost 26 and she did well until the last month of her life.
