One of my dogs has a spot on her front foot that she will not leave alone. At first it looked like a wart, then it started to swell and the hair around it is falling out. We took her to the vet and he suggested we make her wear an ecollar (lampshade ecollar, not electric collar) and spray the spot with liquid medication. After 10 days of this it looked worse. The vet is suggesting a biopsy, and maybe surgery, but it's starting to get out of our price range. I have been wrapping it with vet wrap to keep her from bothering it, but she's figured out how to get it off. A cattle dog breeder I know said it's probably an acral lick granuloma. He said one of his dogs has it, and there's basically no way to make it go away. He said he is able to keep his dog's spot under control by feeding him really expensive food and making sure he's not crated for long periods of time. My dog is already getting this kind of care. Is there anything else I should try?

Ribbon, Granuloma - Pyoderma my vet said. Spot on back leg that he keeps open. Treat it daily with peroxide and antibiotic salve. He manages to keep it open and wont let it heal. There are drying powders you can use as well as anti-itch products, he has also been on antibiotics for the same. I somtimes apply Calomine lotion in attempts to dry it. Appears this is no easy remedy for this type of condition. I have also used the salve Bag Balm which is used for Hot Spots. If you come across something that works please let me know, as I have yet to find one. VB

are these products safe to use if the dog licks them? I had also heard it's bad to use hydrogen peroxide because it can kill the tissue. At least that's what the first aid teacher said; I used to use it on myself all the time.
