We are a small family interested in getting a beagle. Having done some research on the breed I think it may be a good match but want to do a bit more checking first.... and who better to ask than beagle owners? It is only myself and my 7 year old son. We both LOVE animals but until recently did not have a living situation that could accomodate a dog. My son is very active and I want a dog that will enjoy playing with his boy. We have a REALLY large yard that is well fenced... but there are neighbors on each side of the yard. Quite honestly I don't think we will regularly walk the dog... but I know that he will get alot of attention and play time. Here are some of the criteria that I have been hoping for in deciding on a breed -- small to mid-sized (our Cottage isn't big), moderate exercise needs, moderate grooming needs, good playmate(not just a lapdog), ability to be calm and loving when necessary, not highstrung. In a nutshell we will love and give attention to our pet, it will never be ignored. As with our other pets he/she will be a part of the family forever so we REALLY want to find a breed that is a good match. What do you think? Should we go forth with our plans?

Beagle is a fine pet long as you have a fenced yard. they dont run away but tend to walk away as once they get a smell they are off
also beagles barks are unique, some also tend to bark alot. Listen to a beagle bark and see if you can tolerate it.
Go for a show line beagle, they are more easier to keep than a working beagle
