In many places it is already a felony to kill a police dog. It is an officer. Same as killing a service dog can be a felony because of the job it does.

It should be a felony to kill any dog. Why should it only be for service dogs and police dogs? I bet your ass if it became a felony to murder a dog or cat. their would be less animal cruelty.

SAR dogs are covered under the same statute in NJ. Don't know about other states!

Yes, it should be a felony to kill any dog, not just police dogs.  I do know that a friend of my parents, about 15 years ago, killed their neighbors dog because it was barking all the time, and he did get jail time out of it.  He got a laddar, put it up to the privacy fence and shot the dog over the fence in the dogs own yard!  Another neighbor saw him do it, so he had no way to deny it.
