N.Y. monastery founder Mancuso dead at 72
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., July 1 (UPI) -- Rev. Laurence Mancuso, who founded New York's Monks of New Skete four decades ago, has died at the age of 72 from injuries he sustained in a fall.
The New York Times said Sunday that Mancuso, who acted as a founding abbot for the religious organization in 1967, died June 10 of complications related to those injuries.
Mancuso's death in Framingham, Mass., came years after his retirement from the Orthodox Church in America monastery in 2000.
The monastery, originally founded through the Roman Catholic Church, has long been renowned for its German shepherd breeding efforts. Using mainly holistic training, the religious order gained a significant reputation for producing healthy well-trained dogs. In fact, since 1998, potential buyers of New Skete German shepherds have been forced to wait years to receive one of the animals.
The Times said Mancuso is survived by two brothers and two sisters.

Thanks for the article. Was just up there a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if he will be burried on the monestarys grounds.
They had a little cemetary there with wooden crosses on the graves.

The monastery, originally founded through the Roman Catholic Church, ....
Is it Greek Orthodox Church (Yes, it IS), or Roman Catholic Church?
