I recently went to a local dog show with an additional intent to shop around for a toy that had to meet specific needs that I've been looking for.

I noticed some of my higher prey and ball driven dogs, due to the sand in our area, were slowing grinding down their canines and I related it to their enthusiasm in playing ball and fetching in the sands. I needed a toy that would stand at least 4" above ground hoping to save their teeth. Also, having a pond and needing a toy that was durable and that would float. I also was looking for something that was built DOG TOUGH, was made well, would throw far and that would also hold my dogs interest and be "exciting" enough to be such a cherished toy that it would hold their focus, even under distraction.

Yes, a tall order for one "toy" to fill.

I found the WUBBA! Out of 6 different versions, colors and styles, I chose the WUBBA WARRIOR.

It's 2 balls of different sizes, one squeaker, one none, it's got multiple "tails", is easy to throw, defiantly gets my dogs going and is very well made. It's quite impressive. The tails really get the drives going too.

All in all, I'm very impressed, it's exactly what I was looking for and thought I would share with you all.

Is It going to be in stores, or just from vendors at shows? Here in Texas its the kong or order from catalogs....maybe on the cover of packaging on you wubba has an 1 800 number for us....sounds better than a water kong....

watsongsd,

Hey thanks. As I said, I went to a dog show to find a larger selection of "toys" as I couldn't find anything I was impressed with locally here in this small town rural area. I had checked on a few "pet supply" websites I order supplies from but all the toys did not look suitable to adult GSD's and nothing impressed me.

I bookmarked the link to WUBBA as I doubt only one WUBBA will do it for us! As you see, the one I got is 17", it's large enough to be impressive yet throws easily and floats and is highly visible. Frisbee's around here don't last an hour, Jolly balls for $20-30.00 sooner or later get dissected, kongs seems to disappear into the landscape. But my new Wubba is the King of toys here and only goes out the door when I do.  I do plan on getting another now that I saw how much they enjoy it, even to the point of almost salivating!

Oh, on the website you found, it's $14.95, I got mine at the dog show for $10.95, so deals can be found out there. Now, if I can only find a deal on the medium size Furminator  hmmmmmmm

In Oklahoma we have Atwoods.  Don't know where else you might find an Atwoods, but I got a wubba from there!  My dogs are crazy for it!!!  Think I only paid about 9.00 for the large one!

For those that want to try one and live in a small town or can't find one locally, here's a link to what eBay has currently. I suggest getting the large, 17" one for the GSD.

My dogs LOVE their Wubba.  It is made by Kong now.  I've seen them locally in stores too.  I got mine from Jand J dog supplies before I saw them at the feed store here in town:

Just out of curiosity, and sand aside, do your dogs play with tennis balls a lot??? There is this deal with the glue and the saliva being bad for their teeth. I have two dogs that I do not play with with tennis balls, and there is definately a difference.
