About how much is it to ship a puppy within the US.  I know it depends on which carrier, how far, major airports and all of that.  I'm curious about the range of prices people have paid.   And for those that don't ship, please don't bother answering.

call the airlines - the ones that I know ship pets are Delta, United, Continental, Midwest - probably some others.  They all have "pet desk" just go to their websites and the number will be there - or call their cargo.  Price depends on the weight and/or size of the kennel.  Usually for small puppy in a 200-size crate, the cost is $150-200 but each airline is different.

Hi Animules,

Molly is right on :-) When I ship it has been about $190 for about a 10 pound puppy. I use Continental, since I don't have to worry about heat restrictions.

Thanks.  The only shipping we've done is from Germany and Netherlands so had no idea inside the US.

I just had a 10 pound pup shipped to me a month in a half ago from Texas to Michigan and her shipping was $250 on Delta. It does depend what airline, weight, size of crate.

The last pup I shipped was from PA to New Orleans - pup was about 20 lbs - Delta - cost was $150 plus tax, ended up around $170.  So I guess it also depends on what airport, not only what airline.

I guess your right, because what you paid was a lot cheaper than what I did. My pup was prepaid by the breeder though, and that included the crate and health cert, maybe that is why? I don't know?

One other thing to consider--

ALWAYS BUY THE DECLARED VALUE INSURANCE!

Through Delta, there is no limit. Through Continental, there is a $1200 maximum. Northwest is $5000 (according to their call desk--I got differing numbers, so used the lower one).

You never know when something might happen, and since you would want the problem solved in the case of death of dog (GOD FORBID!!!), but once shipped, the dog is no longer the responsibility of the breeder/seller, especially in the instance of death due to plane crash or negligence on the part of the airline. If you DON'T have insurance, the max dollar value is $500!!! That INCLUDES import dogs that you have told customs the value to, folks!  If it's not on the declared value section, you're out of luck!!

It only costs a few dollars more, and is well worth the cost in my opinion. I typically suggest it to all people shipping ANY cargo. I've never had any issues, thankfully, but would rather CMA in the case that something should go terribly wrong.

Shipping is usually around $300 for crate, health certificate, shipping through Delta or Continental, including the declared value, tax and fuel surcharge.

As stated above, age and weight of crate, pup, etc. and airline you use also effects the price of shipping.  ;)

the cost I quote does not include the crate or health certificate - when I ship puppies, they ship the crate back to me via USPS - or they keep it, I don't care I get my puppy crates at garage sales for $5 :).  Health certificate sometimes they pay sometimes not - depends on how easy it is to combine it with something else.  I charge them the actual shipping of the pup, to the cent, that the airline charges me.  Or when possible I'll ship the pup COD.  Sounds like your breeder added $100 to the cost of shipping, for the crate, health certificate, and maybe some for her trip to the airport and back.  Not unreasonable to expect her to cover her own expenses.  As I said - just call the airline, pick a flight and find out how much the actual cost is for shipping the pup - I'll bet Delta quotes $150 or so for puppies in small crates, not $250.

Right Again Molly :-)

$250 is what I charge to ship, as I include the kennel and health certificate. I am about 1/2 way between Austin and Houston, (approx 1 1/2-2 hours in either direction) I have been tempted to charge for gasoline, but haven't yet LOL
